He doesn't seem unreasonable by the emails, just misinformed.
For example, he quotes VPC "statistics", which we have discussed here before.
I did not get permission to share the emails, but he indicated he would like to post his position online.
He also is open to reasoned discussion of the subject.

I assume because of politeness, but good point;rm9792 wrote:Why do you need his permission to post your emails?Rex B wrote:I

Mel Gibson and Alec Baldwin are also public figures.
Apparently one can even record a private phone conversation with them and as long as one party knows it is being recorded ....

Yep, looks like the same stuff. I responded to the same points, but I did not have the time to research it as this blogger did.Douva wrote:Did his response look anything like the one outlined here: http://www.campuscarry.com/2010/11/23/k ... y/#content" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Rex B wrote:I emailed Mr. Holda, and he sent back a detailed response. It's great the Holda was called on this. Today, with instant media, it's hard to get away with such tom foolery. Holda should be fired, because his mind is not that of a college president. One aspect of higher education is mental discipline, developed over time, and informed by one's character. For a college president to use such outrageous fabrications as a basis for argument shows a lack of mental discipline, or character, or both. He was very willing to make public statements but was not careful about the truth of his argument. Such a lack of concern with facts is a deal killer for a person charged with leadership in the academy. Maybe he can find work in the Obama administration, or at the Fed.
Re: College president insults Luby's Massacre survivors
I sent the Kilgore city newspaper a little news tip about Texas State University voting on the 2 resolutions , maybe Holda will read a newspaper, wait no, he dislikes facts.

Re: College president insults Luby's Massacre survivors
sending the "kilgore newspaper" (Kilgore News Herald) anything at all is a waste of time and effort. It's such a wonderful wealth of journalistic excellence, it's now down from a somewhat informative local media outlet of five printings a week to two printings.....and those are no longer deliverd the same day but sent via US Mail. When you reach "that age" where the first thing you turn to are the obituaries (to see which of your classmates is listed), you find out about the death the day after the funeral. I would have sent a letter to the editor regarding "Dr." Holda's embarrasing statements, but know the general lack of editorial intergity of the paper and refuse to waste my time. Doesn't matter much anyway as the circulation of the paper is now equivalent to that of veracose veins in a 90 year old great grandmother's leg.
Either way, I'll watch the "letters to the editor" column (or the sports page...or where ever they find a place to put it) for responses. If something actually turns up in the paper I'll try to refrain from trashing it before I show it to all my buddies that dropped their subscription years ago.

It's not gun control that we need, it's soul control!

Hey, AndyC, I especially liked this comment by Mr. Kautsky:

See, he's pro-gun after all. All it takes is the right circumstances to motivate him.Now don't get me wrong. I'm all for self defense and the right to bear arms. In the event of a Tea Party fascist takeover of the U.S. (something I don't consider too unlikely) you bet your rear I'm going to pack heat. But until that day, if you feel so threatened by being on campus, consider non-lethal options of self defense.

Fascist Tea Party takeover? I am under the impression that the Tea Party is as far from fascist as you can get.

I get the impression that that website was not built with the most robust comments sectionAndyC wrote:RPB wrote:That's a moderated comment board, they just posted my comments from 3 and 5 hours ago;Karl Kautsky hasn't replied yet. here's the link though for our "comment conversation"

Sort of the kind of guy who goes off the deep end one day and shoots up the campus???AndyC wrote:Well, that kid is a weirdo - and I'm not saying that because he's anti.
He screams about "intellectual honesty" all the time - but I see no sign of any from him. Anything with which he doesn't agree are "lies" and "falsehoods" and whatever - and accuses others of personal attacks on him when he's the one censored by the moderators there for a personal attack on me.
Absolutely an odd individual - what a waste, because he seems otherwise relatively intelligent.
