We did P90X for a while. Its a good workout program, but time intensive. You need basically an hour a day set aside to do it.texanron wrote:I have given up hope on finding time to get to the gym with twins at the house. I orderd the Power 90 dvd set for working out at home. Has anyone else tried this before? I think its going to work for me. If all goes as plan I'll move onto the P90X stuff.

Update: I have lost 14 lbs in the last 3 or 4 weeks. I've gotten a fair amount smaller and I'm wearing my former "skinny" clothes (which used to be my "fat" clothes from when I was even thinner). Friends at church are beginning to comment that I look like I've lost weight....AND that I seem to move differently and be more spry. The Annoyed Man wrote:Well, I've finally gotten around to doing something about my weight and general health. Those of you who've met me know that I am a fat tub of goo.
I worked out a trade deal with a personal trainer recently where she is whipping my fat butt into shape in exchange for me building and hosting a bangup website for her with a cart system for selling her nutritional products and promoting her personal training services. So I started working out with her on Monday, two weeks ago. The workouts are (for me) pretty hard, but I am amazed at how much I actually can do that I didn't think I was capable of. So I have a 1.5-2 hour morning workout in the gym on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and I do cardio stuff on the days in between. I can already tell a difference in how I feel, and my general sense of well-being. Plus, my appetite has gone down and my energy level has gone up. I haven't lost weight yet, according to my bathroom scale, but my clothes are starting to fit me better and friends at church are starting to ask me if I've been losing weight. So something is different.
The only thing is, my chronically messed up back is still a factor, and even though I haven't particularly injured it further by working out, It is more common than not that it hurts a lot afterwards just from all the increased motion. So I find that I have to take something for pain relief either just before or just after the workout so that I'm not all crippled up afterward. Then later, after the pain has subsided and the meds have worn off, I actually feel pretty good, all things considered.
Congratulations! Keep up the good work. The next month and a half will be challenging - if ever there is a time to encourage overeating, especially of sweets, this is it. Remember: you are allowed to take small portions (just a couple bites) in order to get the flavor without having to eat an entire "serving". Or, forget what your mother taught you and don't clean your plate, if someone else serves you.74novaman wrote:Bumping this thread to brag. :) down to 233 from 260 in January.. Still have a month and a half to hit my 225 goal for the year.
I know what you mean. I classify as a dismal failure this time around. But, now I've got a better accountability partner (SWMBO) and more modest goals. 10 pounds by Christmas (8 more to go!), 10 more by Valentine's Day, and another 10 by my birthday (late May). We'll see if "smaller bites" work any better.USA1 wrote:Well I gave it a try but it didn't take.
Uh, oh... Is it anything that you'd care to elaborate on? What else should I avoid in SA?pbwalker wrote:I tried and didn't make it. This year hasn't been the best of years from a health perspective and recent diagnoses necessitate a complete overhaul of my diet. So weight loss will happen now regardless.
