Homonyms? Isn't that what you make grits out of? "rlol"

I wouldn't lye about grits - they made out of homily.

Maybe looseing is present tense for slacking the rope of a noose.

I think I heard Press Secretary Robert Gibbs say it not too long ago in one of the daily press briefings. Either him or some other prominent person in the current administration. I think that helps make the folks in DC more bi-partisan, don't you?

I took a couple of chain saw chains and one of my neighbor's chains to the sharpening shop. The guy examined them and advised that he wouldn't be able to sharpen my neighbor's chain due to it being too worn. He counted the links and then used some sort of tool to measure the chain's thickness. He seemed perplexed and asked, ..."Does he have a Stihl?" I couldn't resist responding with, "No, I'm pretty sure he just buys his at the liquor store."

Or "jewlery" for "jewelry"?

Poor Ruidoso, NM.... it's pronounced "Roo-ee-doh-so" but a lot of folks say "Ree-oh-doh-so" instead. ("ruidoso" means "noisy" in Spanish  )

And somehow, in my office, the perfectly good German word "Farzheugbrief" (i.e. a document of vehicle ownership/registration) has been mangled to "Frazzenbrief." Good grief.

And that reminds me of something else... why is it "good" grief? :headscratch

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

Lately the NPR reporters (I don't know which ones by name) have
been doing pieces about global warming.

They have taken to pronouncing a common gas as
"carbon DEE-OXIDE" instead of the correct pronounciation
of "carbon DIE-OXIDE".

I don't know why this irritation has popped up recently.

I stumbled on a word that had never been brought to my attention
as to its accurate use.

I was writing software technical manuals and wrote that certain
parms (that's parameters in the IT world) needed to be set a
certain way to "insure desired results".

Well, I was spanked by my proofreaders.
"Insure" is what you do to protect yourself from financial loss.

"Ensure" is what you do to make sure something happens.

Flammable Vs. Inflammable are used interchangeably.

Supposebly works well with Chimbly, but no so well with Chimly.

Alright, I can't go on with these execrations...

My Father-In-Law was a top-notch building contractor for about 60 years, building or remodeling homes for the upper-crust of the community he lives in. To this day, he still puts 'chimlee's' on houses.

Really? I was always taught that you could use the two words interchangeably as long as you were consistent throughout the document and didn't change back and forth between insure and ensure. I swear...learn something new every day.

LOL!

And my dad says concreke instead of concrete.

My uncle says chimlee.

Maybe they're from the same neck of the woods?
