87 per 100,000 last year. Liberal new mayor ran on defunding the police closing jails. For comparison all those refugees from Guatemala fleeing the violence has a murder rate of 15 per 100,000.
On a side note I got a flyer from my Houston/Harris County Commissioner.
Touting HART. Sending unarmed non police to 911 calls. H stands for Holistic. I’ve attached it.
St. Louis’s mayor wants to do the same thing.
HTTP error it says on the attachment.

"We don't need two jails," she told reporters after visiting both of the city's lockups with Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., in April. "We need to move people through the system, we need to find alternatives to jails for some of the offenses."
I actually agree with part of that. One of the Denton County sheriffs said "My jail is the largest mental health facility in the county. We wait for people with mental illness to commit a crime and then we lock them up" The rest of his message was that there was very limited treatment for those with mental issues and that many ended up as recidivists.
Here is some aspects of this. There are a lot of things that have been made illegal and assigned heavy penalties (not necessarily jail-able offenses) that shouldn't be. We use jail rather than fines in some cases where we shouldn't. But all that said, there are not many government run alternatives available and our mental health care in this country is a joke. Before you go and defund the police, there should be an actual, workable alternative - and there isn't one. Saying that she will figure it out when she had diverted to police funding is folly.
I was at a forum which hosted all of the judges in our county a couple of weeks ago. All of the judges spoke about their respective courts and how they were handling them. There are a number of programs that they are working with, mostly non-profits, to provide alternatives to criminal punishment. I was particularly pleased with some that were used for veterans. I would bet that St. Louis has nothing like any of these and will have nothing like them even after the police funding disappears. It is like the political claim of spending money on infrastructure - it never happens.

High School shooting, two women plus the shooter dead.
Long gun.
Stopped by good guys with guns who ran towards the gun fire. Potentially saving many.

AR15, 600 rounds, dozens of magazines and manifesto.
New suggested question before selling a gun, have you had a girlfriend? have you been an isolated loner your whole life? Would people describe you as “quiet”?

It seems that officers have learned a lesson from the Uvalde shooting. A quick response and decisive action is the way to go.
The important thing to learn from this shooting is how did the shooter enter the school if all doors were locked. I worked my entire career is secure areas and learned that some people will open a door for strangers because it's the polite thing to do.

The big unanswered question..how did he get into the building through locked doors supposedly manned by school police officers?TxRVer wrote: Wed Oct 26, 2022 8:57 am It seems that officers have learned a lesson from the Uvalde shooting. A quick response and decisive action is the way to go.

Another important question, why pick a school to try and kill people. Press coverage? Precious humans there? Gun free zone?Grayling813 wrote: Wed Oct 26, 2022 1:48 pmThe big unanswered question..how did he get into the building through locked doors supposedly manned by school police officers?TxRVer wrote: Wed Oct 26, 2022 8:57 am It seems that officers have learned a lesson from the Uvalde shooting. The article states the school was locked and a security guard saw him trying to access the school. They seem to be very tight lipped as to how he got in and what actions the unarmed security guard took, if any, to alert others to a potential intruder. Judging by the condition of that rifle I'd say it was a street purchase.

Sack also told reporters that Harris had been seeing mental health professionals and that his family had him committed several times.
Whoa! Aren't those disqualifiers to him being able to legally possess the firearm? If so, why did the police give it back?Whenever the family “noticed him, kind of, stepping out of line … they always worked to try and get him back on his medication, back into therapy, whatever it is that he needed,” he said.
It gets worse...

Some third party known to the family could be in a heap of trouble. The family “worked with our department to transfer that to an adult who could legally possess one,” Sack said.
The firearm was ultimately transferred to a third party known to the family.

Illinois man arrested and charged with murder for killing a man trying to steal his car at night.
Sounds like he stopped the stealing and then chased the man and shot him.
