I mailed my application today. The wait begins...

09-07: Mailed application request to DPS
09-22: Took CHL class at Top Gun
09-24: Mailed completed application to DPS

Use the waiting time wisely. Practice your method of carry around your house. And-------------DON'T CHECK THE DPS WEBSITE!!!!!!!!!

The DPS website can drive you crazy. Although I check it everyday and was thrilled to see it change to processing application.

No worries. I need a PIN first.[1] Plus, with the new rule that non-resident applicants shouldn't get a TX ID, I probably won't be able to log in even after I get my PIN.

[1] From what I've see in other timelines, people who do the paper application receive their PIN shortly before they receive their plastic, so most of the wait should be over when I get the PIN letter.

I, too, recommend that you use your wait time wisely. Not only does it keep time from moving so slowly, but you're mentally preparing yourself for concealed carry.
Read all the books you can, and hang out here as well.
I checked a lot of books out from the library.

Thanks Venus,

I'm currently licensed in NC so the waiting doesn't affect my ability to carry. I would like my CHL before I relocate to Texas, but I'm still waiting to hear further regarding my interviews two weeks ago, so I'm more nervous/impatient about that.

I don't see why it would reset the clock. The application documents make no mention of a color photocopy of my DL and I don't see that requirement in the law either. Therefore, it sounds like this request is merely one part of the background investigation.

Clock got reset for me, finger print cards where rejected, had to do them over. Five weeks wasted.

Doesn't work that way, cbr. It is 60 days from receipt of all materials. If they are asking for something then they didn't have all the materials prior to then. I know - it didn't say you needed it. You could challenge that and maybe have it count as the original start date, but I doubt it would work.

They received all materials required by law (and/or the application instructions) three weeks ago.

From a practical standpoint, it's pretty much irrelevant. Even if DPS and I agreed on dates, there's no penalty if they don't issue in 60/90/120/etc. days. There are members of this forum who didn't receive their CHL within the time limit, so what does it really matter when the clock starts?

However, also from a practical standpoint, I'm covered under reciprocity. I can carry legally when I go to Texas next month for my new job. Until I receive my CHL, I don't see any reason to take any action that may affect my ability to carry under the auspices of reciprocal agreements, regardless of whether I receive my CHL in 30, 60, 90 days (or longer.)
