Need help...headed to Colorado in a week

Post by HooG19 »

I'm going on vacation to Colorado, leaving Oct 6. I'm not finding much in the way of carrying restrictions posted on the state website other than schools and the "federally prohibited" areas...

We are planning to visit Royal Gorge (taking the train ride), Pike's Peak (Cog Railway), Air Force Academy (military installation=no carry) and various other places that aren't really a concern.

From what I can find, Pike's Peak and Royal Gorge is not a State or National Park, so I should be able to carry in the parks itself without issue. It does appear that Royal Gorge could be construed as an amusement park as they have built a few rides and attractions, but would that make it off limits in CO?

Anyone have any recommendations, warnings or further information?

Thanks in advance!!

Stay out of the national parks (like Rocky Mountain National Park) and you should be in line with everything else that you already know. I am pretty sure that Pike's Peak and those are NOT national parks and you are okay.

Pike's Peak is in the Pike National Forest, not a national park. (ok) You might keep an eye out, as you can occasionally pass through protected wildlife areas, instantly. Although I do not believe you are in areas of concern.

If you plan to visit the little museum at the prison in Canon City, then a little preplanning will be necessary. iirc, it's a block off the main street coming east from the Gorge.
Here's a link that has a list of the various areas of Colorado.

Sounds like a relaxing trip, Enjoy!
