PIN Number Question...

Post by Micten2 »

I applied and paid online, recieved my packet, and took the class recently. I mailed off the packet that the DPS sent me, and now the waiting begins. However, after reading some other stories, I keep reading about people getting their PIN after some time. Can anyone explain to me what the significance of the PIN is? Since I don't know, does this mean I missed something in the process? My instructor didn't mention anthing, so I hope I'm alright. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can use the PIN to check the status of your application online.

I thought you got the PIN during the online registration process.

I must've overlooked it. I'll have to check the DPS website to get it. Thanks a lot for your response. I'm glad it's not something I forgot that would make me wait longer.

How long does it take to get a PIN if you didn't apply online? They cashed my check a week ago and I've been waiting for my PIN ever since.

Reports from members say anywhere from one week to never. I would call after two weeks if I were in that situation. It seems that applications get hung up somehow, and phone calls or e-mails shake them loose.

PIN

The PIN was included in the packet from the State. It's located on the top of the printed application.

I did mine online, and of course forgot to write down the pin. If you email them at the address on the website, they will email you back with the PIN.
They responded to me within 24 hours.

But what you SHOULD do, is forget all about it, if you can. The waiting only seems longer when you are checking the status online 15 times a day.

Agreed, I only mailed my packet a few days ago, and I'm already getting anxious. I'm going to buy an XD 9SC today or tomorrow, so I can begin to familiarize myself with it. Then, when I finally have plastic in hand, I'll be completely comfortable with my carry weapon. 1-2 months seems like a lifetime though....

Micten2 you will enjoy the XD9SC it has been my every day carry gun for over a year now. If you start practicing at the range now you will be prepared when your plastic arrives.

I bought the gun yesterday and took it to the range today and loved it. For such a small pistol, it shoots much bigger. I'm curious Bigolbigun, where do you carry it?

I carry IWB @ 3:30 in an Uncle Mikes Sidekick $15.00 holster. I have tried other more expensive ones but I always go back to the Sidekick. Maybe it's my body type 6'3" 260 but it works for me. In cooler weather I carry OWB @ 3:30 in a Blackhawk Serpa Kydex holster. Again it works for me. That is the thing about holsters is ask 10 people and you will get 10 different answers. You have to try them till you find one that works for you. Congrats on the XD and the pending plastic arrival.
