It looks like Lt. Carlton Marshall is going to survive, but he can probably use all the help and prayers he can get right now. (Link)

A Dallas SWAT officer successfully underwent surgery after being shot Wednesday morning while serving a federal warrant at a home in Oak Cliff.

The officer was identified as Lt. Carlton Marshall, a veteran officer who has been with the Dallas Police Department since April 1986. Marshall joined the SWAT team in Nov. of last year.

Officials said doctors were optimistic about his chances for recovery.

Marshall was serving a federal warrant at a home on Hollywood Ave at approximately 6 a.m. when someone from inside the home opened fire, striking him in the upper torso. Marshall was immediately rushed to Methodist Hospital.

Other officers were already inside the home at the time of the shooting, according to police.

DEA officials told FOX 4 that the situation involved an IRS warrant.

Marshall is married with two children. His family was reportedly waiting at the hospital.

"We're hoping for a positive ending on this particular shooting," Sgt. Gil Cerda said.

"We're hoping he will fully recover."

Marshall has received over 40 commendations in his years on the force, according to a spokesman.

Officials said one adult female, two adult males, one male juvenile and an infant were found inside the home where the shooting occurred. The three adults and one juvenile were taken into custody, according to police. Investigators are working to determine which individual fired the shot.

The infant was seen being held by officers on site. Family members of the suspects have reportedly been asking to take custody of the child.

Officials said weapons were spotted by officers at the scene as they cleared the house.

Several law enforcement officials were gathering at the hospital to show support for the victim. Lt. Vernon Hale told reporters that it's important for officers to come together during times of tragedy.

"Any time an officer goes down, we come together as a family," Hale said.

Police said Marshall’s family has a history in law enforcement. His wife is a police officer in another department, and his father is a retired member of the DPD, officials said at a news briefing.

Prayers sent for Officer Marshall and his family.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961
