Please pray for my sister, Christy

Whether the need is great or small, there is power in prayer, especially when God's people raise their voices together.

Please pray for my sister, Christy

Post by barres »

She's actually my sister-in-law, but we usually forget to mention that part.

She has been house-sitting for a friend from church who has been out of town (North-West Houston, btw) and was carrying in groceries yesterday afternoon. She did not lock the door behind her. She was apparently assaulted and beaten about the face pretty heavily. No bones were broken, and the assault was limited (if you can say that) to her being beaten up. She was knocked unconscious, and does not actually remember what happened. She remembers going to turn off the radio and then coming to and finding herself in bad shape.

The police have no suspects at this time, and robbery does not seem to be the motive, as nothing obvious was missing from the house. Christy is home recovering today.

Please pray for her to heal quickly, and pray for her to have the strength to get through the emotional upheaval she will face in the coming days, especially if she starts remembering what happened.

And please, friends, lock your doors. Bad things happen to good people.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Barres, I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner. The senseless violence perpetrated on Christy is the reason I so loudly applaud the work that folks like Vicky Farnam and our own CompVest do to get more women trained and comfortable with carrying firearms. I know she doesn't feel like it right now, but your sister-in-law was extremely lucky; if this bottom-feeder was willing to beat her unconscious, the final result could have been much worse.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me. (Psalm 138)

Christy will be in my prayers, for her recovery and protection.

We got to see Christy Friday night. She is doing much better, but she still looks rough. Her face is still rather swollen on the right side, and one of her eyes is now black. She was supposed to go back to work today for the first time since all this happened.

We know that Christy was fortunate not to be hurt any worse than she was. We know she is blessed to still be alive. The night of the assault, as we were taking her home, I mentioned to her that I would be happy to teach her how to shoot a firearm. She responded that she had been thinking about that since the assault. I have not yet brought it up again. I want to give her a little more time to heal.

Thank you all for your prayers on Christy's behalf, and thank you for your show of support here on the forum.
