Looking for a S&W 642 holster w/ clip

Post by aggiedave05 »

Helped a family friend make a purchase last week. She picked up a S&W K frame. We looked at holsters and picked up a desantis pocket holster, but she indicated she would like something similar to that, but with a clip she could clip it on in her purse.

We looked around the store, but couldn't find anything that fit the bill. Only stipulation is that it not "snap" the gun in and prefer something with similar material although leather is not out of the question.

Thanks!

I have a Desantis pocket holster. I use it in my purse in the compartment dedicated to my gun. I do not need a clip to keep it in place. The non-slip tectured fabric they use works great at keeping my gun in the correct position.

If she really needs a clip ask if Desantis would consider putting one on their holster for her. It might start a new line for them.

The title lists a Model 642 J-frame but you mention in the text that she bought a K-frame. Holster choice is influenced by barrel length and that would be a factor with a K-frame holster but not if it is a J-frame (in most cases)

Bianchi makes the popular Model 100 IWB holster with a spring steel belt clip but I wouldn't guarantee that it will fully lock onto the internals of her handbag. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.

The model 100 spring clip is quite stiff. If there's a zipper or thick seam, it should stay put for the most part. Due to the fact that the narrow clip point is meant to clip to a belt, there may be some upward movement before it catches and some lateral rocking with the slack, but it takes quite a bit of force to pull the clip over a sufficiently thick seam - much more than it takes to draw. I can wear mine with jeans and no belt without worrying about it coming free. I can see a simple solution of sewing in a 1.5" wide piece of leather or other thick material inside the pocket to give the clip something to hold on to. The Bianchi 100 is a good holster, and I'm happy with mine. They're also commonly carried in gun shops, so she should be able to take a look at one and see if she likes it.

Another option might be to get an OWB holster and sew in a "belt" for it to ride on inside the purse. You could make it removable by installing small screws on the other side of the backing material with perhaps some leather sewn into the material front of them, and then have them poke through and have holes in the "belt" and small thumb nuts to attach to the screws and hold the belt in place. That would keep it in place while making it removable if need be.

DOH!

It's definitely a J Frame. Model number right, frame not so much.

Her thought was it would clip onto some small pockets on the outside wall (of inside) so it would not be clipping to just the lining of bag or something.
