Galco UDC

Post by Hyunchback »

The Ultra Deep Cover from Galco seems to be related to the USA. The main difference that I can see is a reinforced rim around the "mouth" of the holster to hold it open after the pistol is drawn.

I purchased mine used through a forum.

This is an initial evaluation rather than a detailed one. I hope to update it after a time.

The holster is designed for use as a "tuckable". I have not yet employed this feature. It rides on a single clip that slides behind the belt and has a J hook to the underside of the belt to provide traction when drawn.

I have now worn this holster with three different pairs of pants and even with Wranglers I don't feel like t

he waistband of the pants is really sufficient to entirely stabilize the holster. It's not loose, just not really secure like one anchored to the belt at 2 locations like an MTAC.

I've worn it at the appendix position and is not too terrible in this zone. It provides more concealment here than the Blade Tech Universal slide. It is also not as accessible. Concealment is always a compromise with accessibility.

One factor with this holster is that there is nothing to keep it attached to the belt when the belt and pants are not fastened (on the toilet). It can and has dropped off. The unit is small enough that the whole thing can be slid into a pants pocket at least temporarily while in the restroom for concealment and to prevent leaving the firearm behind when exiting the facilities.

The rough exterior of the holster does prevent "ride up" which I have experienced with a Don Hume IWB model on the same firearm. In one thread on the board about love handles this factor has been brought up. Depending on one's shape it can be a problem with some holsters. The UDC avoids this by having the rough texture to the outside.

I've used one for years when there was no other way to properly conceal (working in office, Church) and it's my most valued holster.

Mine is very stable while carried but it's the belt and not the waistband of the pants that provide the stability.

I've never, ever dropped it.

It cannot "ride up" because the J-Hook will not allow it to move vertically.

You oughta see mine. It's absolutely black with use and polished to a beautiful shine from rubbing against my clothing.
