Mailed 4/7, today told approved/Rec'd
Son mailed app 4/7/2008. Recieved 4/8/2008 certified mail. Cashed check 4/13/2008. Was told today approved and will be issued. Now waiting on the mail. That looks like 72 days for now plus mail time to get it.

Congrats,
Yes, very quick considering there are folks who sent theirs in a full month prior and do not even have PINs yet...

My app was received 4/23 and was told today they are just finishing up my background check and it should be much longer.I hope that means the fingerprints were accepted and I had no paperwork issues...

Congratulations!
That was pretty quick!
I am close to your time-line, also. This gives us all a little more hope, which helps.

I still haven't received my PIN yet and it's been almost 60 days.

Good thing I already have my Utah plastic.

Son received license today. That makes it 76 days total.
Re: Mailed 4/7, today told approved/Rec'd
Well, I'm at 66. Called today because it's still at "Packet mailed to applicant" and was told that work was actually being done on it but it wasn't "in process" yet. Huh?lws380 wrote:Son received license today. That makes it 76 days total.

So why did lws's son receive his license in 72 days? Got lucky? Sic'd his state rep on them? Payola? Know someone in the DPS office? There has to be a reason as to why some of the applicants are receiving their licenses in the proscribed 60 days or close to 60 days. Maybe he (or she) lives in a small town and the local background checks are completed faster than those in the big cities? What is the common denominator for these "lucky" guys?

14 days ago DPS said my background checks had been completed (for an unknown amount of time) and my application was almost finished...The_Vigilante wrote:So why did lws's son receive his license in 72 days? Congrats on your sons App getting through the red tape.
No background hit at all.
No ID theft.
No (common name) with a state background hit.
No fed record with (common name) hit.
No out of state, state records (common name) hit.
No tax dept hit (common name)
No child support hit (common name)
School loan (common name) hit
You see where I’m going with this.
Any common name hits that come up during a background check have to be looked at to make sure it’s not the person applying, and will slow that packet down while others sail through with no hits at all. I have a common name and was delayed even getting my gun due to a name hit It was no problem except it held up me being able to get an instant purchase, In the past, I have had contact with child support looking for a guy with the same name, my father has had a property tax dept put on him for having the same name, as has my wife with her common name. And we all had to fight them to get them to see the errors, and stop their collection actions, what a pain. But this type of error will hold up a packet big time.
So if you have a common name be ready for same name hits on state and fed records that have to be looked at due to some person not keeping their act straight. Your SSN and DLN/IDN would be the only separator, unless ID theft is evolved then the situation gets even more complicated to correct or even check out.

I think there are other reasons for the quicker than normal turn around. It has been discussed on other threads.

lws380,
I would be interested in knowing the reasons for the quick turnaround time or at least the links to the threads where the reasons are discussed. Why do you think your son "got lucky?"
