Hostage watch: Day 80

Post by jmorris »

Today is day 80 of my license being held hostage at "packet sent to applicant". Not that I expected it to take any less than a 100, but the reply I got to my email today was the standard "prescreening" message, and when I called last week the tech gave the background check answer. So, the only thing I can figure is that "prescreening" is the actual work part, and the "In processing" part is when everything's been checked and it's been sent out to the printer. Then after the license is checked for errors it goes to "approved". So it's probably worthless to even check the website before day 80.

For a few years I was the IT guy at a military medical laboratory and ran the data entry section as part of that. If I'd used the above we would have lost our accreditation (or at least I would have lost my job). When the shipment hit the receiving area the status went to "received". When the shipping department opened the shipment, it went to "in processing" (or our equivalent). May even have been a couple more status messages as it went through individual lab sections. If there was a problem it was reflected in the status section. The clock on the processing requirement started ticking from the received date. And the hospitals could log in any time and get an accurate status.

Either DPS needs to put some meaningful information on the status page or just get rid of the thing. Course, then they'd be getting about a 1000 email/phone calls a day, but that's probably only a few more than they are getting now.
