Game rooms attract robbers

Post by seamusTX »

Game rooms that operate illegal 8-liner gambling machines and handle a lot of cash are attracting robbers at a rate approaching one a day in Galveston County.

I have libertarian tendencies, but I despise these places.

What is the point of these places(besides raking in the cash)? Gambling is illegal in Texas(except for the state run lottery). Louisiana isn't that far away from Galveston if you really want to play(gamble).

Yep, sounds like crime magnets.

As far as I can tell, the people who go to these game rooms could not afford to put gas in their car and drive to Louisiana.

You forgot insurance. You're betting that whatever is insured will at some point get damaged, but the house always wins.

Just can't imagine why illegal activity attracts illegal activity. :headscratch
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

That is the point. They don't need any other point.

You are right that Lake Charles isn't far from Texas, but Detroit built some casinos on the Detroit River so that money wouldn't go to the casinos in Canda.

I think that Nevada has been losing a lot of gambling revenues because of the Indian Casinos in California.

I am really concerned about bringing legalized gambling to Texas. I have heard that they want to use it to bring in tourists into the Kemah and Clear Lake area. Note the building of high rise condos on the lake.

Don't forget voting. It's a lot like Russian roulette. You can't really win, you just don't lose this round.

Forget I said that. I'm in a weird mood. :???:
