"New" guy with a question

Post by lj bluesboy »

Howdy all, I've been lurking for a while and figured I'd step in and introduce myself :tiphat: .

The reason I call myself a "new" guy is that I'm new to the board, but not the waiting room since I've had my application in with the DPS coming up on 110 days now, with no end in sight. About the 90 day mark I gave my state rep's office a call. I was actually pretty impressed with DPS's response; I got a phone call about every day for a week with a status update. Until, that is, my info got sent to my county (Brazoria) for my background check. The DPS supervisor I talked to assured me it'd be issued "within two or three days." Twenty days later, I've gotten no further, and neither my state rep or senator can't seem to get any more info out of the DPS :totap:. From what I can tell, my situation seems to be the norm, regrettably, but I thankfully haven't hit the 150 day mark some folks have :eek6 .

So, all this brings me to my question(s). Now, its my understanding that not only does a BG check need to be done in any county you have resided in the last 10 years, but also in any county you have worked in. This is (mostly) fine, since the only place in TX I've worked is my home county. However, I go to school out of state (east coast), and have held a number of paying internships in this "foreign" state. So, my question is this: is the DPS required to put in for a BG check in the foreign county since I put it on my app? If so, whats to keep some low-level bureaucrat from having no clue what to do with the request and just chuckin it in the trash, leaving the DPS high and dry for a BG check? And finally, is there anything else y'all can recommend to give me a snowball's chance in Texas of getting my license before I'm 40?
I'm a Ramblin Rack from George's attack, and an Elephant Engineer!
App received by DPS 5/9; CHL issued day 129, 9/15

I am likely in the same boat as you, having lived in 7 counties over the past 5 years. I expect that my wait will be interminable. My solution? I applied for a Utah CFP. This way, I'll almost certainly have plastic in hand within 60 days of submitting the application, and then Texas can take all the time they want to do their unconstitutional financial checks.

It's a route that you might want to consider.
