New ESP pistol for IDPA

Post by age_ranger »

Just picked up my soon to be ESP gun. Most of you will recognize the Beretta 92 style but if you look close there's a few features that stand out. It's a 92 STOCK. The pistol has a frame mounted ambi-safety, steel grip panels and barrel nut. These were factory production pistols and according to IDPA headquarters, it's a legal gun for ESP. There were 2000 units produced of each caliber and they have been discontinued so they're not legal for SSP but since there's no production limit for ESP, they're good to go. Accuracy is amazing and it handles like a dream. I was able to shoot a 2" group off a rest at 25yds. (2nd attempt 5 rounds) Trigger needs a little lightening but it's smooth as butter already. It's a shame Beretta isn't still making these.

The 18 round flush fit mags are a nice addition to teh package too......although they won't ever get stuffed to capacity in IDPA. :???:

Now I wish I didn't have to work on Wednesday after noon. Oh well probably better that I didn't shoot it. I already cant afford this shooting habit. :fire

How much does it weigh??? If the frame is aluminum alloy it should be fine.

I believe it weighs in at 35.8 ounces without the mag. Aluminum frame. My biggest concern is it fitting in the IDPA box. The pistol is a dream to shoot. Love the frame safety since I have a bad habit of riding the slide lock on the 92 series. Slide locks open after the last round every time now :anamatedbanana

Best part is the 18 round flush fit mags, although they won't get loaded to capacity in IDPA. Loading it up with 18+1 makes it one HEAVY pistola!!

Length is listed at 8.5"
Width is listed at 1.7"
Height is listed at 5.5"

Found the box dimensions.....looks like it may not fit the width requirement.....

Length: 8 3/4"
Width: 1 5/8"
Height: 6"

The factory advertised dimensions are:
Length is listed at 8.5"
Width is listed at 1.7"
Height is listed at 5.5"

Actual measured dimensions are:
Length 8.5"
Width 1 1/2"
Height 5.5"

IDPA regulation:
Length: 8 3/4" - so it will clear by about 1/4"
Width: 1 5/8" - will have 1/8" clearance
Height: 6" - will have 1/2" clearance

Thank goodness it'll fit!

Oh, yeah.....just installed the LTT parts and got in the CompTac gear. Have to work on presentation and get used to the safety and having to reach around it to hit the slide release but she's ready to go. :woohoo

Well, good news is that it fits in the IDPA box so the other model Berettas with frame safeties should too. Those include the Stock, Short Combat, Steel and Billineum as well as the original 92 but that frame safety was much smaller. Definitely need to decide on a reload method. That slide lock is harder to reach with my thumb with that frame safety and while reloads were easy, getting that slide forward wasn't. Also, getting that thing off-safe proved to need some memory work because I wound up snicking it off at different times during my draw. All things that will need a little work but can be easily remedied with practice.

Accuracy was superb and it hit exactly where I was aiming when I used the sights. I admit that targets at about 7yds or less I don't use the sights much unless I need to make certain I don't miss a shot. The CompTac gear was exceptional as expected............got to meet some more people. There were 26 shooters there and at least 6 were women who all did very well. I'm very pleased with this pistol. To date, it's the best pistol I've ever owned :clapping: :anamatedbanana
