Austin and IKE?
Gotta head to the capitol city tomorrow...how's the gas/power situation in Austin and the I-35 corridor in general? Up here in the sticks of NE Texas, several stations are without gas as of today or no power. We were without power for about 24 hours. Just want to know what I'm up against before I head south.

Things in the DFW area are OK. We were on the edge. I don't believe Austin got it too hard either, but Huntsville over east had some outages. Gas is anywhere from $3.59 up for regular in the Dallas area.smyrna wrote:Gotta head to the capitol city tomorrow...how's the gas/power situation in Austin and the I-35 corridor in general? Have a safe trip!

Re: Austin and IKE?
We got a total of 15 minutes light rain last night. That was all that we saw of Ike other than several thousand visitors from the coast. There are no mentions of any local shortages of any supplies and gas was 3.56 this afternoon at the one place that I noticed. Hotels might be filled up, but I have not heard anything about that on the local news.

That's good news...except for maybe the extra visitors and the traffic. 3.56 per gallon is 40 cents per gallon less than what I paid today.dave_in_austin wrote:We got a total of 15 minutes light rain last night. Cheapest I saw this morning in NAustin/Cedar Park was $3.63.
Except for a lite breeze and some clouds, Austin didn't get anything from IKE, nor from Dolly, and not from Edwardo either. Man, Austin is 0-3, and we need the rain badly.

You got that right. Every big storm or system in the past few months has completely skipped Austin. While I don't envy the terrible stuff that has gone on in the rest of the state recently, it's almost comical to watch the radar animations and see the storms completely step around the entire Austin metro area, but hit everywhere else around us with a nice dose of rain.AggieMM wrote:Cheapest I saw this morning in NAustin/Cedar Park was $3.63.
