Anybody concealed carry in a fanny pack?
I bought a fanny pack at the gunshow for $27. It has a zippered compartment with a velcroed holster. Does anybody concealed carry in a fanny pack like this or any other type?

I carry in a Tommy's http://www.tommysgunpack.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and it works well.

I do when I'm exercising. I found a good low-key one that I'm considering doing a rewiew on.

I have one I had custom made in colors that aren't used in traditional gun carrying fanny packs. I use it mostly when dressed in running shorts and tank top during very hot weather or while canoeing, etc. It has yet to get a questioning look from anyone.

Where do you get custom gun fanny packs from ? I'm guessing Tommy or big name brands do not.. though "Guess" would be a perfect brand ;)

The company I bought mine from many years ago is no longer in business.TexasVet wrote:Where do you get custom gun fanny packs from ? I'm guessing Tommy or big name brands do not.. though "Guess" would be a perfect brand ;)
You may be able to find another company at one of the gunshows who would custom make a bag in an unusual color / fabric / style for you, or do a little looking around on Google - it shouldn't be hard to come up with what you want.

I've used one for years. And I don't care what anybody thinks about it! it's real nice to have all my stuff in it and not have to sit on my wallet.
The one I like best is no longer in business. I use a Tommy's gun pack now. The only thing I don't like about it is the BIG buckles and wide belt. They could have used something a little smaller.
FYI: The small Tommy's gun pack will hold a SIG P239, but you can't 'rip' it open for a fast draw. The zipper hangs up on the slide. It will 'rip' open with a Kel-Tec P11 or a Glock 33 with a flush magazine. If I use a +1 pinky extension on the Glock the zipper hangs up on the slide.
I have the medium size also. A SIG P229 will fit in it, but it won't 'rip' open. Zipper hangs on the slide.

Here's a source that offers custom built fanny packs. They may be able to create something that would meet your needs.

Another option would be to pick any fanny pack you like and then sew Velcro into it. Then you could take the holster section out of your current bag and use it.
The same would hold true for the extra magazine holder…or you could take any traditional mag holder that you want and sew or glue Velcro to it, and then you could use it in your converted fanny pack.
Depending on how much they are going to charge you for a custom pack, it may be cheaper to buy a general pack and modify it for your purposes.
By the way, for backpacking I used this approach and modified my day pack so it can easily carry a full sized auto and two extra mags…works great!
One thing I would recommend is to practice often with your fanny pack. At least for me, it’s a much slower draw, and not one I would want to do in a potential grapple situation. Practice so you get a feel for it’s limitations.
Good luck to ya!

Re: Anybody concealed carry in a fanny pack?
I'm new to the forum (as of about 10 minutes ago) and think I am going to learn a lot here. One comment on the fanny pack issue: bought one made by KBar a few months ago. Well made and looks pretty much like a "regular" fanny pack. Holds my XD40 service well and can be holstered either right or left hand draw. Zippers rip open really well. Pleanty of room for an extra mag and two pockets on either side of the pack that could hold small clips, cell phones, etc. Think I paid about $36 + shipping; selling at gun shows for about $60 bucks. I am not currently legal and don't carry this way but with the castle law it is good for concealing while in the car or stuck in the bags on my motorcycle. Taking CHL on the 19th and hope recent message from state rep is correct; got it back under control and should be in the 60-90 day wait. Be safe out there...ETexPops

It's a good way to carry when I'm jogging.

Welcome, ETexPops, it is good to have you with us.
I have never used a fanny pack, but this thread has been very helpful in changing my outlook on them.
I just may have to give one a try.

Re: Anybody concealed carry in a fanny pack?
I've been wearing a butt pack for carrying a pistol for about 15 years. I carry a Glock 19 in a Galco Nylon Butt Pack. It is a comfortable way to carry in the summer where the Offical Formal Wear for a retired LEO is a T-Shirt, shorts and sandals/tennis shoes with the optional baseball cap.
Most folks don't give you a second glance. A far as bad guys tipping to the fact that you are carrying, if you believe that bull I have some bridges in Brooklyn that I'd like to sell.
Two years ago I went to the Summer Police Olympics in San Antonio, Texas. It looked like a Butt Pack Convention in the down town area and the River Walk Area in the evening. For me Butt Packs are a great way to carry in the summer when I'm wearing less concealable type of clothes.
I once had a man ask me if I thought that I need that at a park while I was watching my grandchildren play. I ask what he was talking about and he pointed to my butt pack. I looked at him and said, "That my colostomy bag, are you here from the hospital to collect my specimen?" He literally jump up and ran to the other side of the play ground. I later saw him at the local gun range and one of the rangemasters said he is the "Local Hunting liberal" who does not believe that citizens should have the right to Carry Concealed and is anti CHL.
