Customer with Pepper spray!!
Here is the deal, today I was just working my retail store and a customer came in with a canister of pepper spray in clear view, not in any holder clearly just sticking out of his front right pocket (easily assessable).
What would you do if he pulled that on you?
The customer did leave, But If I got any indication that he might have intentions to use it I would have asked him to take it out of the store.
I really couldn't think of any defense against the spray, Drawing after he sprayed it would have been a very stupid idea I believe. So I just carried the phone in one hand while I kept my distance as much as I could.
Tell me what would be your reaction? Would you have just told him to take it out of the store? Then if he didn't then you would certainly know his intentions, and He would know that you saw it.

Good answer, but what if he already sprayed it?WarHawk-AVG wrote:Toss him something heavy
How much time do you think an average person would have to react before they can't see?

If he hasn't hit you directly...it takes a while before you start getting irritation...usually its not enough to blind you unless you catch a face full of it.
Just open a door and a few windows and let it air out, once you stomp the knucklehead into the dirt and call the police to come pick up the pieces.

Re: What if you were hit with Pepper spray?
I guess I don't understand your concern.
It appears that the basis for your concern is that if a customer has a means of disabling you (in this case pepper spray), he is a threat and should be suspected of being up to no good. Other than the fact that there is no state law requiring any special license to carry pepper spray, how is this different than someone coming into your place of business with a concealed handgun (and appropriateCHL) and telegraphing or accidentally displaying?
Maybe I just missed your point and the intent was really focused on how to react after being sprayed. If so, I apologize for jumping to an invalid conclusion and admit that I don't have an answer. If not, I guess I don't understand your concern.

Re: What if you were hit with Pepper spray?
Well, the whole reason I posted this is because from the moment I saw him come in it was CLEARLY displayed, I know it is totally legal to carry but something about it being so easy and readily available to him just got me thinking " What If" and just before he walked in I was reading on this forum and just figured that I would post something about it. I always got good answers on all my posts and just was curious what other members would do.bpet wrote:I guess I don't understand your concern.

What if someone walked in openly carrying pepper spray and a handgun? What if they were wearing a uniform?smokindragon wrote:Well, the whole reason I posted this is because from the moment I saw him come in it was CLEARLY displayed, I know it is totally legal to carry but something about it being so easy and readily available to him just got me thinking " What If" and just before he walked in I was reading on this forum and just figured that I would post something about it. Re: What if you were hit with Pepper spray?
Sorry, no offense intended but the significance of your title went over my head and I got wound around the concern for open carry of pepper spray. I guess to answer your question, I don't think it would have bothered me to see someone carrying pepper spray. My wife carries it and I think nothing of it.smokindragon wrote:Well, the whole reason I posted this is because from the moment I saw him come in it was CLEARLY displayed, I know it is totally legal to carry but something about it being so easy and readily available to him just got me thinking " What If" and just before he walked in I was reading on this forum and just figured that I would post something about it. Re: Customer with Pepper spray!!
Perhaps this is another argument against open carry.
And I agree with OP. co worker (work at a bank) carries spray clipped inside his front pocket, it’s very visible, but I am floored boss has not said anything… but hear I am judging him when I am concealing my 45. . .

What good is a defensive weapon that isn't easily and readily available?smokindragon wrote:I know it is totally legal to carry but something about it being so easy and readily available to him just got me thinking

Re: Customer with Pepper spray!!
It wouldn't bother me a bit. 9 out of 10 people I see also have a big metal clip on their pocket, which in all likelyhood is connected to a large knife. If I was worried about that, I'm living in the wrong state.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961
Re: Customer with Pepper spray!!
Wouldn't bother me. You see women with pepper spray on key chains all the time, men with the clip of a folding knife displayed all the time. Spray in the pocket is no different. I wouldn't carry that way because I don't trust that method for risk of an 'AD', but I wouldn't be concerned if others did.

Re: Customer with Pepper spray!!
Ok, I guess y'all just had to be there.
Just something about that particular situation seemed to throw a flag for me, sorry i guess it is hard to imagine where I am coming from not seeing my work area or not knowing I work the store alone.
Not that I am scared of someone with Pepper Spray or even a knife, just at that particular time when I saw the spray It just got me thinking what should I do if he sprayed me, So I posted this.
