Carry at Disney world
So, my family and I are planning on a trip to Disney World at Florida right after Christmas.
You're darn right I want to be armed on an out of state road trip.
I know that Disney probably has a no weapons allowed policy. Do they currently have metal detectors that they make you walk through before enterance into the park? I've read that several people have successfully carried into the park for the duration of their trip there, but that might have been a year ago.
Has anyone been to Disney World recently and can you comment on their security?

Re: Carry at Disney world
I carried there a couple of years ago. My friend works in the park and she told me not to leave my gun in the car lest it get stolen as auto break-ins had been a problem. I honestly don't remember if it was posted or not.
Southwest Airlines was great about me flying with a gun, no problem whatsoever.

So, I assume that there are no metal detectors nor wands?

Re: Carry at Disney world
I can't find the link anymore to the chl laws page (the one that shows the laws for all of the states), but is Disney World not considered an amusement park? or is that just a rule for carrying in Texas?

Re: Carry at Disney world
That is Texas law. I do not know Florida Law, but I believe I recall that WDW cannot bar CCW by visitors (though they probably try). Just remember to have your weapon(s) secured if you ride any of the roller coasters!onecoolpilot wrote:I can't find the link anymore to the chl laws page (the one that shows the laws for all of the states), but is Disney World not considered an amusement park? or is that just a rule for carrying in Texas?

Try looking at http://www.handgunlaw.us/ for more info on Florida CCW laws.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Carry your concealed weapon at Disney World lest you get blown away.

We're not banned from carrying in amusement parks in Texas unless they post 30.06onecoolpilot wrote:I can't find the link anymore to the chl laws page (the one that shows the laws for all of the states), but is Disney World not considered an amusement park? or is that just a rule for carrying in Texas?

Re: Carry at Disney world
I have the same situation as the original poster. As far as I can tell from FL law, amusement parks are not specifically prohibited. However, I could not find out what the requirements are for a business in FL to prohibit CCW (like 30.06 in Texas). Can they just post any no guns sign?

Re: Carry at Disney world
I was mistaken then. I was thinking that if they met the 'definition' of an amusement park, they had to post the 30.06 signs.flb_78 wrote:We're not banned from carrying in amusement parks in Texas unless they post 30.06

Re: Carry at Disney world
The only thing not mentioned, unless I missed it, was that Disney tried to get itself "Off limits" because it has fireworks in the park. FL passed a law that exempt explosive companies from their new law that makes it legal for employees and patrons to leave firearms in their cars or carry on company property. Florida does not recognize private property rights as strictly as Texas. Their policy was challenged and the FL Supreme Court, I think, told them they were not exempt under the new law. FL has no "Amusement Park Law. Obey the law of the state you are in and not your home state law.
Do not carry off your body. As mentioned any and all bags are searched. Doesn't matter if it is a small fanny pack. I carried a Glock 21 IWB under a big shirt and the guy never looked at me.
One more piece of advice I have is to not rely on Hotel to Disney World buses unless you’re staying at the Disney hotel. I spent an hour and fifteen minutes on one and it is not a pleasant experience even without the wife and kids. They stop at every, and I mean every hotel.

It's not really the park that concerns me.Oldgringo wrote:Carry your concealed weapon at Disney World lest you get blown away.
I much rather have the pistol on me than sitting in the hotel safe or in my car.

Re: Carry at Disney world
Thanks for the advice. I have asked other people and they say the same thing; bags, etc are searched but not the person. I don't know where my family and I will stay but it probably will be off the park.shootthesheet wrote: Do not carry off your body. As mentioned any and all bags are searched. Like I previously mentioned, it's not the park that worries me; it's staying in Orlando and being on the road that I want to be armed. Plus I'm at the point where I feel naked without it.

Re: Carry at Disney world
What ever happened to it being the "...happiest place on earth..."???
A suggestion, so take it for what it's worth...
If it really means that much to you, take a fanny pack with you...Do not place the firearm in the fannypack when you go thru "Checkpoint Charlie"...Have it somewhere on your person...And when you get thru the gate, go make a pitstop in one of their facilities and secure the firearm in the fannypack at that point...
With all of the ups and downs at these parks, it would be better off secured in a fannypack in my opinion...I do not believe (unless you have a flap holster) that normal holsters have good enough retention for all the activity at these places...I know some folks swear by some holsters, but I am only talking in generality...
And all of this depends on Florida law and the policy of the facility in question...
Just my opinion...
