WASHINGTON – Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.
"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."
While political activists on the other side of the spectrum have made similar observations, Rossiter boasts professional credentials and a life virtually free of activism and links to "the vast right-wing conspiracy."
For more than 35 years he has diagnosed and treated more than 1,500 patients as a board-certified clinical psychiatrist and examined more than 2,700 civil and criminal cases as a board-certified forensic psychiatrist. He received his medical and psychiatric training at the University of Chicago.
Rossiter says the kind of liberalism being displayed by both Barack Obama and his Democratic primary opponent Hillary Clinton can only be understood as a psychological disorder.
"A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity – as liberals do," he says. "A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population – as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation's citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state – as liberals do."
Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:
creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;
augmenting primitive feelings of envy;
rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.
"The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."

Hey cowboy, no one in my liberal family is trying to take your guns, we have plenty of our own.
We would appreciate however if you and your conservative pals would quit trying to take away our choices, our freedom of worship, our 4th amendment and stop working so hard to dumb down our schools even more than they are today. Please try to rein in some of the spend and spend Republicans you voted into office before you rant about tax and spend Democrats. They used to teach math skills in school, you have to take in as much as you spend or else you have a deficit. I guess conservatives are too focused today on teaching flaws in established scientific theory to notice that our politicians have forgotten basic math.
Seems to me that the only ones calling the far left 'liberals' are people who call themselves conservative.

That is not a true statement. I have heard Barry and Joe both say that they are proud of their liberal record and their place among the most liberal in the Senate.

Nobody's ever going to win the lib/conservative debate. Let's just see the party coming into power do any better on anything, and let's see if they can continue our streak of NO attacks on our soil since 911, thanks to President Bush's unwavering strength in protecting us and our progeny in spite of the zealots of every stripe railing against him like rabid curs.
It's threads like this that make me loathe the team mentality of what ever party you're on that everyone else is the evil devil just because they don't choose the same label you put yourself under.

The only thing that holds true currently is that the democrats pretty much hold true to their platform while the repubs have abandoned theirs.

The democrats tried going too centrist after Clinton, and well, it didn't do them any good. Returning closer to their liberal roots helped them win. Personally, I think the extreme unpopularity of GWB is what really won it, though.
But lately, I feel that the Republicans are only on your side if you're a very large business, and the Democrats are only on your side if you're in a Union, or unemployed/unemployable.

I could really care less what any "shrink" has to say on any particular subject. You simply shop-around until you find the one that agrees with your viewpoint and publish him/her.
I think I would qualify as an Expert-witness on Divorce, Internet-trolling and self-gratification.
