Saudi author advises on the proper way to beat your wife

I'd argue it's more of a cultural issue fostering a religion as justification for such actions.
Exodus 21:24 touts an eye for an eye but I don't think many christians would cite that as grounds for such retribution. Not because of their religious beliefs alone but because of the cultures they live in.
Religion is no more peaceful or evil than your gun is in of itself. People carry out evil actions.

I wouldn't blame the religion as much as I'd blame the local culture.
I would blame the religion for tolerating it, but admittedly, I have major issues with Islam, and won't deny that I can be impartial about it.

Jesus reminded us that "eye for an eye" isn't touted, but is a limitation on retribution. You can't take a life for an eye, or a limb for a tooth.atxgun wrote:Exodus 21:24 touts an eye for an eye but I don't think many christians would cite that as grounds for such retribution.

But doesn't the Bible also include rules and strictures for beating a wife, a slave, or animals?
Real gun control, carrying 24/7/365

I'm not a religious person, though many of my moral's are right up there with a Christian. I hold myself to each and everyone of them strictly, all formed while growing up and growing older and I'm proud of the way that defines me.. And ya know, beating ANYTHING is just wrong. Now I'll be the first to discipline a child, I've even been known to wack a horse across the head a few times, but it's no where close to what you'd call a beating.. When I think of a beating, I think of a all out brawl where a strong person is over powering a weaker person causing harm. Maybe it's the same thing in different cultures, discipline, I dont know..
"Beating" a woman, that just enrages me actually. I am in no way above any woman or man ( talking equally here ), therefore when I hear of anyone beating someone, it comes across to me as a person showing dominance. Sure, dominance is in every relationship, in every group there will be someone more dominate than any of the others.. But you dont just go around hitting people to show it!Or because you dont agree with what someone did.. Of course at times it can be hard to refrain yourself, but thats where morals come in.
That might be their culture, I can respect that to a point. It comes across as being very barbaric ( sp? ). If I grew up in a culture like that I'm sure my outlook would be different.. I'm just glad I didnt..

When I want to beat my wife I prefer a queen's pawn opening with moderately risky fast development and strong center control. She's not exactly a great midgame strategist.
That, or challenge her to some multiplayer Halo.

I would say that the Exodus passage doesn't even apply to the Christian today. This passage was in effect back in the days of a theocracy when these laws were put in place to govern the Israelites. We live under the government that has been established and are subject to it's rules as described in Romans 13.atxgun wrote:I'd argue it's more of a cultural issue fostering a religion as justification for such actions.

This is "multiculturalism" in action.

The dope looked like he was dressed for a klan meeting to start with, that's a serious miscreant all the way around. Folks with those types of pompous and dictatorial attitudes toward other human beings, especially supposed loved ones, are prime examples of why our 2nd amendment and domestic violence laws are so valuable and righteous, in my humble opinion.

If I tried to lightly beat my wife you would be able to tell from my two black eyes

It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end-to-end, someone would be stupid enough to try to pass them

Now that's just cruel (usually).KD5NRH wrote: That, or challenge her to some multiplayer Halo.
I actually dated a girl once who could beat me consistantly at multiplayer Halo, I was so impressed.
