Why don't sellers clean their guns before they ship them ?

It continues to amaze me how sellers of guns on gun auction sites ship their guns to buyers in filthy, dirty, not cleaned after last shooting condition

Good grief. I mean, when I sell a gun to someone, it is pristinely cleaned, lubed and packaged for them so when they receive it, it is in the condition as advertised.

I've bought at least 4 guns over the years that were filthy dirty, had obviously been shot and not cleaned, and one had so much lead in the barrel it took me a day and a new Outers Foul-out III cleaning kit to get it clean.

Just bought a beautiful Wilson Professional 9mm, that had been fired very little (100 rounds claimed) but was filthy dirty when I got it. The gentleman must have shot two boxes of ammo when he got the gun in 2006 and then put it up in his safe. Unbelievable way to treat such a fine firearm. Fortunately, after I cleaned it up, it looked pretty much brand new

I just don't get why people don't clean them up before they ship them out.

Good question, not everyone is neat about their guns. I know people who take their expensive shotguns for dove out a few weekends a year and never clean or lube it.. If you look at it with pride then you'll clean it. If it's just a tool, some might just use it and put it back in the box and wonder why things don't work next time

It always amazes me to see dirty guns at pawn shops, gun shops and gun show tables. But I have seen them.

That happens to me so regularly I'm surprised when I buy a used gun that has been cleaned and lubed. I think it's just a different strokes thing. Not everyone cleans their guns as completely or frequently as others. I certainly err on the side of overcleaning.

My wife put 10 rounds through my Browning Buckmark a few days ago and I've been engaged in an internal struggle with myself about it ever since. I wanna clean it, but I know that spending the 30 minutes (yeah, I'm slow and meticulous) just because of 10 rounds being fired is probably grounds for therapy.

I personally do not want to have to pay a company for buying the cleaning products, paying someone, proper disposal of those supplies, etc. . If they do it we would see an increase in cost. Besides, REAL gun people enjoy the cleaning almost as much as they do the shooting.....are you a real gun person or what? Cleaning = Nirvana

Interesting. I've bought eight guns off of the net in the last four years. Two came from private sellers, two from pawn shops, and the others from fun dealers. With one exception, all were in pristine condition. The exception was a well-used, daily-carry pistol from an individual, and it was clean enough, it just hadn't been fully disassembled and washed in solvent, etc.

I suppose it's a question of different perspectives and priorities. I sold a car on craigslist and I didn't see any reason to wash and wax it before delivering it to the buyer. It was advertised as used.

Personally, I don't like that. I clean my guns before selling them.

I bought a G19 with 1000 rounds through it and never cleaned. There was carbon caked on the rear of the barrel.

Cleaning my guns after shooting is almost a religious experience.

I clean my Glock once a year whether it needs it or not.

In the age of entitlement we seem to have lost common courtesy. I once owned an old pickup as a third vehicle that everyone asked to borrow on moving day. I finally went to a trophy shop and had a plaque engraved with the following phrase: "To Borrow Means To Replace The Gas". I placed that plaque right above the fuel gauge for future users. Again, where has common courtesy gone?

Courtesy in this day and age is a myth. In our now now now lifestyle we have created its just not common practice anymore. I always like to think as Texas still have a fair amount of "southern hospitality", but it amazes me the lack of general courtesy given to one another on the real world. As far as cleaning a gun before selling it...yes I always clean a gun before selling it or even advertising it for sale to take pics. I may not clean it the second I come from shooting, but it gets cleaned before the next use for sure. I recently bought a used 1911 that was filthy when I bought it. And the safety was not functioning properly. The price reflected the safety, but still run a bore brush through it and at least wipe down the feed ramp. Different strokes kind of thing like said above I guess. Just like some take a lot of pride in their own appearance and others could care less.
