Security forces in Washington for the inauguration include 25,000 National Guardsmen and police officers from over 100 agencies. Other measures include "random" stops of vehicles, banning traffic on bridges over the Potomac, banning water traffic on the Potomac, and closing down all air traffic over D.C.
President Bush declared an emergency in the District of Columbia, which leads to the federal government paying for security. No one seems to know what the total cost will be. Congress has allocated $15 million so far.

Re: Inaugural security
As far as I can tell, absolutely nothing unexpected happened.
I figured at least a couple of protesters would make a scene. Good thing I didn't bet on it.
