Alternative to ordering supplies-GOT 5K Lrg Pistol Primers

Post by CWOOD »

Try ordering from Cabelas for those things which are just not available anywhere like powder and primers.

I just odered some Winchester Large Pistol and Small Rifle primers and some Varget powder from them.

They are not low price but they are good customer service in my experience.

Like everywhere else, these items are backordered for 2-4 weeks depending on each item. BUT...

When the items get in stock, they will now automatically ship to me and I am tired of looking for them all over the internet and Central Texas. Also, if these items happen to come into stock and ship at different times, it is still just one $20 hazmat fee for the whole order.

I know, there are better deals out there, except that nobody has anything...or at least everything in one place....extra hazmat fees ordering piecemeal.

I recently ordered a set of Lee Deluxe Carbide dies in 9mm which were backordered. I knew it when I ordered them. They were out at the stores too. Mine shipped about the same time as the store got in stock and I didn't have to keep going to the store to check up on it.

So, if you think this might work for you, maybe give it a try. If you don't, that's OK too. For me, I feel lots better knowing that my powder and primers are coming to me as soon as they are available and I will just sit back calmly and wait for them to arrive in the Brown Truck of Good Things. AAAAHHHHHhhhhhhhh :sleep

At least they are allowing backorders; Midway and others are not.

Midway allows backorders on some items like dies and presses but not for other stuff like PMAGS.

I'm joining you!!!
I ordered some primers, powder, and a die set. Six different ships dates since all are backordered 1-8 weeks.
ONE hazmat fee $20 (which I,m splitting with a buddy since we are combining orders)
ONE shipping charge which was the amount based on the dollar amount of total order. (Again splitting cost)
NO TAX.
No more checking web sites to find primers!!!!!!!!!
OK they are little higher but, Unless you are buying only one SKU and a bunch of it, Cabela's is the way to go, for me anyways.

I will never forget getting charged extra $10 UPS charge for a $8 backorder from Midway or NotsoCheaper than Dirt cant remember which one.

I will sit back a reload with what I got and wait for the resupply.

Are you sure about this part? They quote that it is a $20 hazmat fee per package. If you order SP and SR primers and they ship seperately, Would they charge you one shipping fee, but two hazmat fees?

thanks!

I asked twice and before I could finish asking the first question, the CSR said "I know where you are going with this" and said just one fee. I put my order together along with my buddy's and called back and talked to a different CSR and I asked again...same answer. I couldn't believe it either especially the one shipping charge also. I ordered 2 different primers, 3 powders, and a die set. All with varying degrees of backorder time.

Yes, I am sure. I called and asked just to be sure, as did JackRR. I was notified that my 4# of Varget shipped UPS on 4-1-09 and while my 6000 primers are still a couple of weeks off, I am OK for now.

More good news in my 1000 230 gr FMJ .45ACP and my 1000 115 Gr. 9mm arrived today from Precision Delta.

Based on volume, they have contract rates with UPS FedEx etc, and are paying $5.00 or less for HazMat fee. they can absorb a few and still make a profit on it.

Re: An Alternative to ordering supplies--GOT 4 # OF VARGET TODAY

Post by CWOOD »

The "Brown Truck of Good Things" brought my four pound order of Varget today. I am still waiting for my 6K of primers which are still showing to be about 1-2 weeks out. Things are getting better.

I have plenty to do reloading pistol for now.

Got my powder from Cabela's last Tuesday 14Apr sooner than they said on original order. Also my small rifle and small pistol primers are due 1st week of May (3 weeks sooner!!!!!!!!!). So far they have exceeded my expectations. Cool!!

I like this strategy. This week I recieved notice that the 5000 Winchester Large Pistol Primers. It has been two months, but I have not run out and now I won't for a while. I got them today.

I also went to the Buda Cabelas to browse the Bargin Cave and happend along the firearms counter and WOW!...They just got in what looked like 30-35 thousand Remington Small pistol primers. They made a PA announcement in the store. Limit 1000 per person. Got some.

I also got an email yesterday from Cabelas regarding the Small Rifle primers which have been on backorder. They asked whether I wanted to continue to wait or cancel, and apologized for the delay. Nice gesture. I called them to request to continue my backorder.

So far I have been VERY pleased with this system and I haven't had to continuously prowl the internet or scramble to get a deal. They have dealt very fairly with me.

Be advised, if Midway ships the "in stock" items immediately and ships the back-ordered items later, they assess additional shipping charges.

Steep shipping charges.
Original CHL: 2000: 56 day turnaround

I learned the hard way in the past from Midway orders. I ordered a bunch of stuff, most in stock but 4 different items on "allowable" backorder. Got the stock right away (they are fast I must admit) but the 4 backorders I got 4 different times and 4 different shipping charges. Some was ammo and got the $10 plus UPS treatment. NO MORE.
