Stephenville police are searching for an armed robbery suspect who either attempted or managed to rob Members Trust Federal Credit Union on the Northwest Loop Friday morning. Details are sketchy at this time, but the man was described as being a white male, 6 ft.-6'2'' ft. and 250-300 pounds. He was wearing a gray hoodie, light blue jeans, a blue bandana, black shoes and sunglasses. The man was also reportedly carrying a large caliber semi-automatic handgun. He was driving a black Trailblazer. Anyone with information should call police at 254-918-1200.

I served on a Federal Grand Jury several years ago (for 18 months) and listened to details of numerous bank robberies. I was surprised at how little the average "take" was. Seldom was it over $2000. In one robbery, a branch bank inside of an Albertson's was robbed and the perp got off with about $1500. The teller gave him a stack with a GPS device and dye pack. He was caught within 30 minutes. One of the comments made by the testifying agent was that the robber walked right by the convenience booth in the store that had more than $20,000 on hand that would have been more easily taken.

Sketchy details for sure! It amazes me how very little suspect information or crime details can be provided but they are certain about having a "Large Caliber Semi-Automatic". And large caliber semi-automatic is defined as.......????

Well, apparently he did get the usual undisclosed amount. Today's front page has stills from the black and white ceiling mounted security camera. Unfortunately, you can't even tell what color the bill of the cap effectively hiding his face (well, the part above the bandana) from the camera is. Why can't banks figure out that they need cameras mounted low enough to see under a hat brim, and good cameras on the parking lot, mounted low enough to read license plates?

Edit to add; the gun appears to be a semiauto of some sort, and oddly, it looks to me like his finger is outside the trigger guard. I've never heard of armed robbers having good trigger discipline.

Where I work, we do some surveillance camera installations, and it never ceases to amaze me how bad some of the videos you see on the news look. Sometimes I think they intentionally make them look grainy to the public so they don't know just how much you are on video.

Nah, the ones at work are darn near useless unless you happen to be watching live and zoom in one of the pan-tilt-zoom cameras on somebody. Unfortunately, the person in charge of the setup didn't participate much, and won't push to get it redone right.

At the place I worked when I was in CA, we had security cameras on the outside roof of the building and the monitor was up by the receptionist. One day we noticed there was no video from any of the cameras. after messing with the switcher and monitor, we took a look outside and all of the cameras were gone. When we looked at the tapes, we saw a pickup truck pull up, two guys pulled out an extension ladder and just climbed up and stole them. It was too dark to see their faces. It was actually pretty funny since the company did fire alarm systems for high rise buildings and yet none of their own equipment was monitored.
