This day in history - March 15

Post by seamusTX »

44 BC - Julius Caesar was assassinated.

This date was made famous by the warning in Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar: "Beware the Ides of March." The Ides was the 13th or 15th day of the month in the (very weird) Roman calendar.

1913 - President Woodrow Wilson held the first presidential news conference.

1919 - The American Legion was founded in Paris by American veterans of WW I in Europe. :patriot:

1956 - "My Fair Lady" opened on Broadway, starring Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews. It ran for over 2,700 performances, setting the record for that time.

I wasn't there, but didn't Julius say something to the effect, "et tu Brute?" as the Senate was showing him their cutlery?

According to Shakespeare, yes. Who really knows? He might have said, "Ubi est gladius meus?" or "Oh, merda."
