Alway good to know you can trust the VP to keep a secret

Vice President Joe Biden, well-known for his verbal gaffes, may have finally outdone himself, divulging potentially classified information meant to save the life of a sitting vice president.

According to a report, while recently attending the Gridiron Club dinner in Washington, an annual event where powerful politicians and media elite get a chance to cozy up to one another, Biden told his dinnermates about the existence of a secret bunker under the old U.S. Naval Observatory, which is now the home of the vice president.

The bunker is believed to be the secure, undisclosed location former Vice President Dick Cheney remained under protection in secret after the 9/11 attacks.

Eleanor Clift, Newsweek magazine's Washington contributing editor, said Biden revealed the location while filling in for President Obama at the dinner, who, along with Grover Cleveland, is the only president to skip the gathering.

According to Clift's report on the Newsweek blog, Biden "said a young naval officer giving him a tour of the residence showed him the hideaway, which is behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock with a narrow connecting hallway lined with shelves filled with communications equipment."

Clift continued: "The officer explained that when Cheney was in lock down, this was where his most trusted aides were stationed, an image that Biden conveyed in a way that suggested we shouldn't be surprised that the policies that emerged were off the wall."

In December 2002, neighbors complained of loud construction work being done at the Naval Observatory, which has been used as a residence by vice presidents since 1974.

The upset neighbors were sent a letter by the observatory's superintendent, calling the work "sensitive in nature" and "classified" and that it was urgent it be completed "on a highly accelerated schedule."

Residents said they believed workers were digging deep into the ground, which would support Biden's report of a secret bunker, but officials never confirmed the purpose of the work performed.

The revelation is the latest from Biden, who has a long history of political blunders.

Most recently, he said in a televised interview that if a family member asked him about traveling he'd advise staying away from public transportation or confined spaces to avoid swine flu -- a remark described as "borderline fearmongering" by an airline spokesman.

The really scarey part is that neither Biden nor his boss elected themselves.

Joe Biden is the main reason we ought to all be praying for Obama's good health. Remember that, as upsetting as the thought of a President Obama might be to gun owners, his successors are Joe Biden, and behind him, Nancy Pelosi. God help us if that ever happened before he could be voted out of office.

One would hope that, if Biden were to succeed Obama, he would have the good sense to recognize that he is in waaaaaaaaaaay over his head, and that he would seek wise counsel. Unfortunately, he's not smart enough to recognize wise counsel if it bit him on the gluteous maximus. It would be like giving a monkey a loaded gun. You know the monkey could figure out how to pull the trigger, but he would be totally unprepared for the effects of doing so. That is a perfect picture of a President Biden.

And if you want to know what a President Pelosi would be like, look no further than Stalin.

Like I said, pray for Obama's good health.

:iagree: You got that right, TAM. I'm still scratching my head over why Obama would pick the guy for a running mate in the first place...

Remember how they used to ridicule Dan Quayle? Funny to see how most of the media is giving Biden a pass and only reporting his largest gaffs. Dan Quayle literally couldn't misspell a word without it becoming world wide headlines.

This guy has to leak classified national security information or set off a nationwide panic over baconitus to get any negative media attention.

I'd say that and TAM's guess are numbers 1 and 2 on the top ten list. You guys should write for Letterman.

The irony would be that should there ever be another event where the VP needs to be secured, will Biden even remember telling the press corps exactly where he'd be taken? Hopefully he'll never be in that situation, but even more hopeful none of his successors will have to have the same concern.

Once again, our country is being "led" by people, who in ordinary circumstances would probably fail a security background check. IMHO

Who knows, maybe they just dug a new basement and told him that was the 'bunker' but didn't disclose the real one. It's probably stocked with those fake cardboard computer monitors and TVs like the have in the furniture store displays and he doesn't know the difference.

After all, wouldn't it be safer to have him not know where it would be unless and until it was necessary to move to that location?

More than likely, his blabbing will probably just cost the tax payers a few more million because they have to go build another one now and try to keep it secret. It's amazing how he lets information out...and he's never even been water-boarded! "rlol"
