You're quite right about the difference in effectiveness between full-autos and semi-autos.

"Tommy guns" were the bogeyman of the Prohibition gangster era. They weren't used all that often. But they gave the Roosevelt administration and some Congressmen who had been working for "gun control" for a long time the leverage that they needed.

If the person who is accused in this case really did what he is accused of, he deserves to pay the idiot tax. But whom do you believe?

I actually think that was a well written very neutral offer. Especially the last part. On the other hand I kind of hope this guy fights it and hey you never know he may be able to get something done with gun laws. More than likely not though  .

Sounded to me like what he did was clearly illegal, and he knew it.
Based on what the article said, I don't see a defense.

Fully automatic weapons are devastating when properly applied, and are a profound force multiplier, especially on multiple targets in close proximity. Any one who thinks otherwise has not been on the receiving end of one.

Seems to me the current laws, as written, worked very well in this case. The man has been caught. His illegal gun dealing shut down. The Federal prosecutor will work him over to give up the names of the people to whom he sold illegal weapons and they will also be caught and prosecuted. See, the current gun laws DO WORK.

The Federal Firearms Act of 1934 works for automatic weapons. There are relatively few automatic weapons in private hands, and they are very valuable ($20,000 or so), so people are careful with them.

Police agencies lose them to thieves occasionally

There is little criminal demand for automatic weapons. You can commit robbery just as well with a pistol, and it's a lot easier to conceal.

I think, if there were a criminal demand, automatic weapons would be coming across the border along with the tons of drugs.

People still cut down shotguns all the time and use them for crimes.

This guy must have been the gang-bangers personal gunsmith:

"Walker provided the converted Uzi to his friend outside a Prince William County auto repair shop in April, the affidavit states. The gun's serial number had been obliterated."
