I pretty sure that was were the idea of "drinking the kool-aid" as meaning buying into the whole thing originated. That was a serious (and final) buy-in.

I wore my "Obamunism" t-shirt to a 4th of July cookout. I stopped by WalMart for a few things beforehand. The cashier almost refused to check me out after checking out my shirt.
