In Baltimore, last weekend, police responded to a burglary in progress. The alleged burglar reportedly lunged at officers with what looked like a knife. The man was shot in the head. The implement later turned out to be a screwdriver.
Paramedics arrived and declared the man dead. Detectives who were processing the scene later observed signs of life. The man was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
Baltimore police had complained earlier that paramedics were taking obviously dead bodies to the emergency room, disturbing evidence at crime scenes.

Just imagine what the Baltimore detectives in The Wire would have done with that guy. After all, it is crab season on the Chesapeake, and good fresh bait is always in demand this time of year.

The correct paramedic answer for this is, "Tough noogies." And after this incident, that's what will happen.
