MO: Police officer shoots dangerous attack cat
In Raymore, Missouri (Kansas City area), Monday, a police officer fatally shot a 6-pound, 19-year-old pet cat. The cat was deaf and reportedly did not comply with verbal orders.

Since when has ANY cat obeyed a verbal human command?
Obviously we are dealing with a neighborhood dispute gone way over the top.
Here is how it should have gone down.
"Hello 911 what is your emergency?"

There must not be much news in Kansas City. I can't believe this made the paper.

Many have not listened to me over the years.......all have survived to tell the tale.........
Re: MO: Police officer shoots dangerous attack cat
People get strangely worked up about animals. The guy who shot a cat in Galveston got more attention than anyone who shot a human being that year.mikeintexas wrote:There must not be much news in Kansas City. I can't believe this made the paper.

You're right Jim. I guess growing up on a farm makes animals property, not family. I do have dogs and love them to death, but they are still (my) animals.seamusTX wrote:People get strangely worked up about animals. Re: MO: Police officer shoots dangerous attack cat
Just what are they carrying that takes two shots to drop a six pound cat?The Humane Society of Missouri is investigating the death of Tobey, a family’s cat shot twice in the head on Labor Day by a Raymore police officer.
It ought to be outraging some other people too; if they really did think the cat was dangerous, why toss the potentially infected carcass in the trash where other animals or people could come in contact with it, rather than take it to a vet for testing?Mayberry had a rough week. Tobey’s shooting and disposal in a trash bin outraged animal lovers and brought a storm of criticism.
Brilliant; when people are home to report strays, the city has no plan for dealing with them.On Friday, Mayberry said the city was working on a new plan that would require an animal control officer to always be on call. Currently, no one is available after hours, on weekends or on holidays.
Re: MO: Police officer shoots dangerous attack cat
The officer had probably trained himself to shoot double-taps. What I find surprising was that there was a head left for the second shot to hit.KD5NRH wrote:Just what are they carrying that takes two shots to drop a six pound cat?

Funny you should mention this! We, in the Navy are trained to "double-tap", but when given the lectures of deadly force, are told to shoot only once! What I continually bring up, is "muscle memory!" What one trains (or is trained) to do, that will be what he/she reacts to in a threat situation - lectures will NOT even come into play! (regardless what "leadership" says it to "will" be!)seamusTX wrote: The officer had probably trained himself to shoot double-taps....

That's why criminals end up being hit by 40 bullets (or whatever) when the police start shooting.
I've never had to shoot to defend myself or in combat, but I had an unsettling experience with the Texas Star. The first time I tried it, I emptied a 10 round magazine in about as many seconds, and I pulled the trigger more than once with the slide locked back. When I recovered my wits, I realized that my heart rate had about doubled.

Re: MO: Police officer shoots dangerous attack cat
Yes, in the Navy we were taught double taps. My CHL instructor was quite explicit on this. Shoot until the threat is elimated (no longer a threat). Never once did he say that we are to shoot to kill, and I agree. I will shoot until there is no longer a threat of danger. He also discussed the after shoot scenario. He said your first and really your only words should be "I feared for my (my family's, whoever's) life....and now I need to contact my attorney, please."
I am a believer in the call 911 asap thought. Keep an eye on the evidence and point the evidence out and any witnesses to the authorities when they arrive. Be cooperative to those points. Contact your attorney. Don't go into any long rambling conversations with anyone.
Or at least, given the stress, adrenaline and all, do the very best you can........

I was trained double taps, and continue to train that way today..NAVY CHIEF wrote:Funny you should mention this! Perrsonally I think double taps with a 1911 or revolver might not be such a hot idea. But with large capacity mags it only makes sense to to make use of the capacity.
