Just checking in, I am scheduled for the class and test on Oct 3. My wife Letty and I will be going together for this. As the date gets closer the more I am thinking of the "what if"s.
If you have any suggestions, let em rip.

RocTrac,
You'll have "what if" questions about all kinds of stuff. Close in hand with the "how's", "where's", and "where not's". Please feel free to ask any of them here. You'll find more information than you can shake a stick at. (and some occasional humor as well...)

Hi RocTrac, and welcome to the forum! Like the others have said, there's a wealth of information here at your fingertips, and a whole bunch of knowledgeable people here to help you and get to know.
P.S. Lonewolf & I shoot at Winchester Gallery on the east side....hope to meet you there someday.

Yep, I am in the norther hemisphere of Ft Worth, outside of the 820 loop and east of 35.
Well, I haven't been to a range since 96 and Letty shot her first firearm at Winchester shooting gallery with Mr Marty from Crossfire (BIG THANKS TO MARTY) so to say that we are out of practice is a understatement. I am hoping to hit a range Sunday or in the afternoon the week before the class. I have read range rules from the ones that have them posted but what about the unwritten rules of range ettiquite (spelling?)
The plan is for Letty and I to go to a range at least once a week when possible.
Are there any suggestions for ranges in N Ft Worth/Keller?
How about groups that go shoot.
CCW rigs, looking at em on the internet and talking to and looking at a persons rig are very different.
I currnetly own a XD 40 Service, would it be better to go with a subcompact or is the service concelable?
I can ask questions here all day long.

Oh, is there a wallet sized card with some of the laws etc that can be quickly pulled out and checked if there is a issue with a store or LEO?

There may be some cards around somewhere, but your best bet is to make some notes of the high points and print them on a card yourself, IMHO. Its also important to remember to check the other states you may go to for reciprocity and familiarize yourself with their laws, as you will be covered with their laws when in their state. For example, here in Texas (the Great State of,) we have specific signs that limit our ability to carry in certain places, and some other places we cannot carry whether there is a sign or not. The 30.06 sign must be in English and Spanish, the letters must be at least 1" tall, and must be a contrasting color to the background. In other states, a simple "No guns" sign is adequate for the purpose. Here in Texas, we would stroll right by a sign like that.
In addition to increasing your range trips, I recommend that you spend some time on drawing from your holster as well. Also practice reloading. These things you can do in the privacy of your own home, after making double, triple, quadruple and quintuple times your weapon is unloaded. And then check it again...
When purchasing a holster, take your weapon with you if you can. Try the holster on, check the fit an feel. It may never feel perfectly comfortable, but as others on here have said, comforting is more important than comfort.
Try to play some games (serious ones) while learning. Play "Spot the Bad Guy". Increase your awareness of your surroundings. Paranoia is a bad thing. Not every bump in the night is The Moment of Truth, you just need to be ready if it is. Making that determination can be instantaneous. Seldom do we have warning when the stuff is about to hit the fan. Just be ready in case it does and do the best you can.
Don't try to be a hero. Or a LEO. That's not the purpose. Others may disagree with some of this, and that is their perogative. You'll hear many things in here, feel free to pick and choose.
I'll answer your range question with some suggestions. You already know about Winchester...they're probably closest to me, but I drive a little ways myself for range time. Winchester's lanes feel borderline claustrophbic to me. Close to you is quail creek up 35 to 1171... They're alright, as long as you don't mind their rules. (one big one people tend to have problems with is the two seconds between shots. I've received warnings from their RO when I was shooting right at the 2 second mark. They really like a noticable pause between shots.). My preferred range shouldn't be a bad drive for you either...take the west side of the loop down to 20 and hop on 377; out past the lake is On Target.
Best of luck to you and your wife in your class and training.
