The story basically tells how Letterman got caught sleeping with some of his female staffers and Robert Halderman, a 48 Hours director, attempted to blackmail him. Letterman is married and announced what he did with the staffers on his show after testifying to a grand jury.

The thing that Robert Halderman should have realized is that the rank & file Liberal like Letteman have no moral compass so therefore, no shame, so therefore, no money for Halderman and now Halderman gets to go to jail.

Blackmail is a crime and if found guilty, Halderman needs to go to jail. But, his second crime needs to be stupidity.

Now, if he found someone like Tom Selleck, Bruce Willis, Clint Eastwood, or Kurt Russell, then maybe he could have got some traction.

Personally I've always thought Letterman was a scumbag and I refuse to watch him. His "confession" is just another way to raise his ratings.

I watched the episode with interest, and I didn't see anything that could not be shrugged off tomorrow with "It was a comedy bit." or some such thing, particularly when he stated that any woman who would sleep with him would be guilty of poor judgment, which reduced it all to merely comedy in his usual poor taste.

I can already see tonight's show, which I will not watch, starting off with "I can't believe you really took that seriously. . ."

It should be pointed out, and I am not defending him in any way, shape, or form, that these dalliances supposedly occurred before his relatively recent marriage to his long time girlfriend.

If everyone said "so what?" about whoever was sleeping with whoever instead of freaking out over it, nobody would be able to blackmail anybody over stuff that basically isn't anybodies business except those involved. Moral outrage only drives this kind of stupidity. It's a non criminal relationship issue between private individuals. So what?

Really this is about on the level of tattle tales in grade school whining about name calling. If everybody ignored them, they would shut up and go away. It reflects poorly on the tattle tale and his followers.

Not everybody on the planet shares your religious views or marital views.

How do you have any idea of her attitudes about affairs? Has she publicly condemned him? Maybe he'd already told her a long time ago. Maybe not. I don't see her screaming and yelling for a divorce already. Like I said, private business between Dave, wife and other chick.

I agree that you shouldn't cheat on your wife, but lots of people don't really care. Really.

If celebs and athletes cheat, so what? How does it affect your marriage or my marriage in any way whatsoever? Does it make you feel better to be able to judge and criticize others about their personal issues? That's real good Christianity for you there...

The only people that I have any kind of condemnation for are those who were elected by voters on a platform of family values. Those people have cheated the people they represent as well as on their spouses. At that point it is no longer a personal and private issue, but a public, political issue.

A great example of the importance of getting the facts right. Letterman got married this year, and these "affairs" were years ago. How one can have an affair before they marry baffles me, but then I have never been one of these "Holier than you" folks.

I've watched about three minutes of Letterman in total. He's a geezer ala Larry King and about as funny. I could care less.
