This day in history - October 3

Post by seamusTX »

1789 - President Washington proclaimed an official national Thanksgiving Day.

1863 - President Abraham Lincoln declared the last Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day, which it remained until 1939. (In 1941, Congress made the holiday officially the fourth Thursday of November.)

1941 - Hitler declared in a speech that Russia had been "broken" and would "never rise again."

Memo for files: (1) Do not depend upon megalomaniac dictators for accurate predictions of the future. (2) Do not invade Russia. It never works out well.

1990 - East and West Germany merged in a lopsided negotiation, ending 45 years of separation.

I used to watch Captain Kangaroo while eating breakfast and getting ready for school, and watched MMC every day after school. Was my favorite show I'd watch without fail. Spin & Marty comes to mind. Also Davy Crockett. It's been decades since I've even thought about that. Good memories. Thanks USA1.
