County issues with CHL background checks.

I think Lubbock County is holding up some CHL's. I don't know if it's intentional or if there's an actual reason behind it or not. Maybe it's just not high on their priority list. I know our friend GrannyGlock had an extended wait and she's from Lubbock, and it would appear that Lubbock County is holding me up as well. I lived there for 6 years while going to Tech and after my wife and I first got married, so it was included in my 5 year history. I called DPS today, the woman I spoke to was very friendly by the way, to find out what was up. Everything is in order and everything else is back, just waiting to get the field report back from Lubbock County. She also told me that she spoke to at least 5 other people today alone that were waiting on field reports from Lubbock County as well. She made it sound like this is a VERY common occurence with Lubbock County.

I know we've talked about the unacceptable wait times before, and I agree, the CHL department of DPS could be improved. But I really think the more serious time issue is caused by individual counties. When it all comes down to it, I guess the CHL department can only do so much with what they're given to work with. And if they can't get the counties to respond in a timely manner, it throws a wrench in the works. But it does sound like they're trying to fix some issues.

She also told me that they are switching to a new computer system starting this week to speed up field reports from the counties, and it would be implemented sometime next week. Unfortunately, for me, and I'm sure some others of you in the waiting room, this means at least 2 more weeks of waiting for sure for all of us. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But just maybe, this will be the fix the individual counties need and will in general speed up the CHL department. I can take this one for the team if being caught in the switch over means my renewals will be faster and others who come after me might be spared the wait.

Has anyone else noticed a particular county that jams up the works? Hopefully, this will be sorted out and we'll make "The Waiting Room" a lonely place soon. I'd like to have my plastic when I go visit txi at DFW range toward the end of the month, but it doesn't look like that'll happen.
