The story goes like this:
Tuesday evening, for no reason, I started getting a very minor pain in my lower abdomen, central area. Figured it was just bad Mexican food

Slept fine that evening, but when I woke up the next morning, it was stronger. After getting up and taking a shower, etc, it went back down to the level of the previous night, and I figured REALLY bad Mexican food

Worked all day with the pain, and occasionally throughout the day, it would spike for 5-10 minutes, and while it spiked, it would feel more like it was coming from my lower Right abdomen, rather then the center. Got home from work, looked it up on the internet, found that it matched appendicitis.
Now, I should mention that I don't like doctors. Nothing personal against them, I just don't like having to rely on other people to keep myself healthy.
I haven't been to a doctor in over 5 years because of this. I know there's some things that an individual just can't solve themselves, but I believe that the people that run to doctors at the first sign of a stuffy nose are just clogging the system, and running up insurance costs for the rest of us. My general rule is, unless I'm bleeding, or there's a broken bone (complex fracture, or something that requires a cast, I know how to splint and immobilize simple ones (fingers toes, etc)) then I don't go to the ER. Granted, I have a job where I can just call my boss and say 'I'm sick, staying home today' and they won't ask me for a doctors note. Lots of people don't have this luxury, but that speaks more to the unreliability of people, and their penchant to lie about being sick for a day off more than anything else. If no-one faked calling in sick, no place would require doctor's notes. Enough said.
So... At this point, all signs pointed to appendicitis, but it wasn't 100%. So I said to myself that I'd go to bed, and if it still hurt in the morning, then I'd go to the doctor.
12:30am I wake up with probably the worst pain yet. Okay, Pain that Wakes You up, is emergency room time. Went to the ER, drank the contrast shake, got the CT, confirmed appendicitis. It wasn't on the virge of popping, but it was definately swollen. Due to the fact that I ate at 7:30 the previous night, and the fact that it wasn't an immediate explosion threat, they opted to to wait until at least 8am to do the surgery. I was glad to hear this, as I was not looking forward to getting my stomach, and the other end, pumped so they could do it immediately :P
Another aside, North Cypress Medical Center is freaking NICE! It's a wonderful hospital. More like a 5 star Hilton than a Hospital actually. They have specialists for pretty much everything on-call, and the doctor that they got to look at my CT at 4am, and do the surgery was a Bariatric Surgeon. He definitely knew his way around an abdomen. They did the surgery laproscopically, so I only have 3 small cuts in my abdomen instead of the huge 6" gash on my side. Kudos to NCMC for an excellent environment, knowledgeable people, and a bang-up job. Anyways, continuing...
So, Morning rolls around, 8am, and they get me on the waiting list for the first open OR Spot. I actually got wheeled into the OR probably about 10AM. An hour later, I'm back in my own room, pretty nicely doped up.
I stayed another 24 hours for observation, and they released me early afternoon yesterday.
Still quite sore, and standing up straight hurts due to the laproscopic entry cuts, but other than that, I feel great!
Lesson: Lower right abdominal pain is no joke, especially if it lasts more than a couple of hours, and has no other 'bad food' related symptoms.
