Obama Urges Congress to Delay Fort Hood Investigation

Post by Lodge2004 »

Nothing like a little "political theater" to avoid "political theater."

Although I agree a thorough investigation needs to happen, I also believe this issue is so politically charged it needs to be debated in the political arena. Imagine if Bush had asked Congress to delay the investigation of 9/11?

Why would the legislative branch of the government have any involvement in when or how the execxutive branch conducts an investigation?

The opposite applies as well...Why would the executive branch of the government have any involvement in when or how the legislative branch conducts an investigation?

Both should look into this, along with the relevant law enforcement agencies and the media. All the facts should come to light. The stakes are too high.

IMO a Congressional investigation should start immediately. It can be successfully conducted concurrently with any criminal investigation that's underway at this time.

Maybe he's just trying to buy time until he gets back so he can better be able to control the spread of information, or lack thereof. I believe it's a political ploy to enable him to further an entirely different agenda.

Just my opinion.

:iagree:

There seems to be more effort going into controlling the narrative than finding the facts. The two lines being used by the media in their initial reports were..."no indication this is terrorist related" (Fox) and "no indication this is PTSD related" (Everyone else). The media decided the direction future reports would take before the injured had even been transported to the hospital.

There are elements of truth to both perspectives. I also believe each is based, at least in part, on how people view the world. Earlier this week on Veteran's Day, there were many who honored Veterans for their service and sacrifice, but there were also those who see Veterans as permanently scarred victims. Which perspective wins will define how we move forward.

I think Congress should hold off until the appropriate law enforcement investigations are complete. Congress will only politicize the investigation and muddy the waters for the criminal investigation.

I don't trust the [omitted] in Congress.

If the cops haven't figured out who murdered them yet, more time won't help.

The only reason for congress to wait is to give [omitted] more time for the cover up.

Law enforcement should be concerned with solving the crime, who was the killer? Did he act alone or was there a conspiracy of two or more people? What weapon or weapons were used? How was the weapon or weapon acquired? How was the weapon brought onto the post? Nothing at all to do with the why of the crime.

Congress should take the information provided by law enforcement and hold investigations as to the cause of the crime; standards lowered, how it occurred on a military installation, how did the terrorist advance to his rank in the military etc.

The executive branch should have nothing at all to do with the investigation. If they do, we will have another 911 commission that absolves all government employees from any blame and allocates no penalties.

” Oh yes, there were mistakes made but they were unavoidable and we will do better next time. You just can’t punish loyal government employees for that. Everyone involved meant well.”

Why do we need an Democratically controlled Congressional investigation? Surely no good could possibly come from this. Let the CID the FBI, and any other apropriate 3 letter agencies take care of the investigation and get on with a speedy Court Marshal and Firing squad. The only debate should be is who will get the honor to be on the firing squad.

This Congress will do no good to Justice or the people of this country, The fewer things they stick their nose into the less likely the American people will get screwed over. Remember this is the same Congress that believes Sotomayor will brings justice to the American people.
