The good old days

Post by Venus Pax »

Mars got me a new reloading bench as part of my Christmas (pictures soon).
I was unpacking all of my equipment, and found some old ammunition boxes that I saved for storing reloads. The price tag was still on a box of .380 (50 rounds). The price? $5.95.

We have a few Winchester boxes of .32 Win Special left (most empty casings), from when I bought a box every so often (with my allowance money) at the department store in town. They all still have the stickers; one says $3.50 (for 20).

Must have been longer ago than I remember, evidently (sigh)....

I have some old Remington .30-30 boxes. One is priced $3.05 and another $3.10, both are 20 round boxes. Oh, for the good ol' days!

I still haven't started back yet, LT.
Mars put my table together, but I may need to purchase a new powder dispenser. We'll see.

I still have some of the following on hand:
Black Hills .223 52 gr Match ammo that was 9.95 for a box of 50
WWB 9mm that I bought at Academy for 4.99 per box of 50
Various powders that cost me 14.50 a pound delivered to my house

However, the really "good old days" was many years ago when I could actually focus on the front sight.

Could not resist jumping in on this. I have some Unique and 2400 from 1974/75 that has $5.95 on the one pound can. I got this while I was in college and first started reloading. I went inactive with the reloading/pistol shooting for many years and just started back last year. I loaded up some 357 mid range loads with the Unique and it still shoots well.

Re the seeing the front sight, I went to quadrafocals last summer and can now focus on the front sight. I just hope I don't have to add any more lines to my glasses, don't think there is enough room for any more!

I remember buying 1000 rounds of WWB .223 for $99 . . . and 140 round battle packs of South African 7.62x51 for $26 . . . and WWB 9mm P for under $5 at Academy . . .

All purchased less than 10 years ago . . .

And I remember when you could buy 5000 Winchester primers for around $30, and a box of 500 Hornady swaged HBWC .38 bullets for $7.27 . . . and i'm not THAT old!
