Gov. Rick Perry hosts shooting party

Post by lancermit »

Last Thursday, I went to Red's Indoor Range (south Austin) to shoot a few practice rounds with my Glock 23. When I pulled up, there were lots of people standing around outside, and the parking lot was full. I just thought someone was having a birthday shooting party or something. Well, when I got to the door, with pistol and supplies in hand, one of the employees asked me, "Are you with the Governor's party?" "Ummm... No?", I said. "Well, the Governor is having a private party, and you can come back around 4:00.

So, I came back around 4:30, and the governor was still there with his posse. But, this time, the 'doorman' let us go on in and wait. Anyway, the Governor and his constituents, friends, enemies, or whomever, were all just finishing up their shooting and clearing out. About half of them had rented guns from Red's, and were turning them in to retrieve their IDs. It was really interesting to just be a fly on the wall, and listen to everyone's 'stories', etc.

Although I really am not the type of person to claim a "brush with greatness", I DID get a couple of snapshots (blurry ones at that), just so I could tell my friends I went shooting with the Governor at the shooting range! I mean, he is, after all, kinda like the President of Texas!

I have heard those stories, but did not know if they were true. Thanks for your post and the picture.

Was it really him? Maybe it was actually his stunt double!

Seriously, I am glad we have a guy like Perry in the Governor's chair. He is an advocate for shooting sports and is VERY pro CHL. Thanks for posting. :thumbs2:

Now, the cool thing would be to figure out how to get invited to one of his parties!! :txflag:

Maybe we can work something out when he comes to speak at the TSRA thing. We can just invite HIM to go shoot with US!

Yeah... that should work.

Here's an article about the Governor's shoot by Roger Simon, a writer for Pajamas Media -- he's also a former Hollywood screenwriter (who wrote a book called "Blacklisting Myself" about his rightward political move).

I am not much for getting too excited about celebrity and autographs and all that, but I would have been interested to be ther not only to meet Perry, but Roger Simon and Andrew Breitbart (of BigHollywood.com, BigGovernment.com, the ACORN tapes, etc).

Something about the front steps to the Capitol doesn't really strike me as a good venue for a "shooting party" lately...

[ohhhhhhh, I feel the hate growing inside some people...] :thumbs2:

Maybe we can invite Dan "the man" Patrick-Goeb to attend that one...See how really supportive he really is about the concept...(sarcasm mode off)

Why has the CHL background process timeline not been fixed yet?
Why was the campus/parking legislation not pushed?
These issues still have not been addressed.

Remember, a lot of good legislation with good possibilities went down the tube in the last legislature when the Democrats with into SLOW CRAWL MODE in the waning days of the session...bless their little hearts...and littler heads.
