Haven't had either long enough to vouch for "holds up better," but I can tell you from wearing both cowhide and horsehide IWB holsters, I think the horsehide is more comfortable.
For me, it doesn't get as "sticky" or itchy when I'm sweaty as the cowhide does. This might have to do with the natural/oil-tanned finishes on my horsehide holsters vs. the finished black/tan on my cowhides.
As far as clips, for my MTAC, the best upgrade I've made is switching from the standard belt clips to the C-Clips....seems to stay in place better.
And, as always, a good belt makes all the difference in the world--especially as the OP mentioned "Pants on the ground"

Although I have a gut (working on losing it) I have no back-side, and I'm basically built like a funnel...so I know of what I speak when it comes to a belt
