NRA Phone Call on U.N. Small Arms Treaty?
I received a phone solicitation last night from the NRA concerning the U.N. Small Arms Treaty and requesting a donation to help support lobbying for that issue. Anyone else gotten this call? If you are unfamiliar with the issue, here is an article concerning the SAT / U.N. Gun Ban http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=124121" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As a side note, while I agree we need to support lobbying and our organizations that do this, they offered to send me a gift with my contribution; an NRA commemorative pocket knife. This is my personal opinion, but I really think the NRA needs to evaluate the amount of money spent on gifts with membership and other non-membership related token items. Do they really get that much more in donations or memberships by offering you an NRA pocket knife or other item as a gift? Maybe it's me, but I can't see how they can come out ahead with these types of campaigns between the telephone solicitation and trinket offerings.

The percentage is probably not near as much as we would like. The total may be more since the "trinkets" & I totally agree w/ the discription, are not ordered until the money is in hand. That is why they say 6-8 weeks for delivery.
I have even wondered if they are not "subbing this out" to the professional tele solicitors. Those guys can legally opporate by giving 20% to the cause mentioned & bookkeeping the rest into saleries & administrative fees.
We have a personal acquaintance, (we are friends at singing meetings but will never be dining out buddys) that is supervisor over one of those that takes fundraising solicitations from anyone that wants to contract w/ them.
I cant do her job. You can take the high pressure tactics of the one you talk to & transpose that to the supervisor/worker setting & you have the pressure the workers are under.
She has a boss that presures her & she is tough on those under her. It is not in me to pressure folks like that & it is not in me to tollerate being preasured that way.

Re: NRA Phone Call on U.N. Small Arms Treaty?
I got the call Sunday, after a LONG day at Home Depot, preparing to sit back and nap while my bride watched the Stupid, er, Super Bowl. Two small dogs comfortably settled on my lap, one large one at my feet, my bride contentedly munching on football snacks next to me, just dozing off, and then the phone rings.
I hereby openly apologize for my rudeness to the young lady who was just doing her job.
OTOH, the polite thing to do would have been listen to what I was saying instead of trying to talk over me.
My dog can't apologize for barking in your ear that way, she just gets upset when I make her listen to the phone.

I got the call. I contributed. So many say they'll fight things like a small arms treaty to the death. Well, maybe. But if you can't kick in a few dollars to the kitty, then I hope it is easier to put your life on the line than it is to put a few dollars on the line. Not trying to be preachy and I know not everyone has a few extra dollars to spare, but if you do, then help.

I have not received a call, and I'm surprised that the NRA hasn't sent a mail request.
Regarding the gift's: I too think the NRA should keep the gift's and the extra money it generates. When I upped to an Endowment Membership I told them to keep the gift of the Bowie Knife. They sent it anyway, so I now have it on display in my living room.

Got the call. The initial request was for $525, which was a bit high for me and more than a "few dollars". Contributed $50.GrayGhost wrote:I got the call. I contributed. I got that phone call this morning.

Cougars are shy, reclusive, and downright mysterious...

This morning, too. He offered my to upgrade my membership to LIFE. I have been a Lifer since 2005. When I asked how much do you want me to give, he hung up. Clearly it has been jobbed out to idiots.

No treaty can supersede our own constitution.
See Article VI- "This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding."
Many people focus on the "supreme Law of the Land" portion while ignoring the "notwithstanding" portion.

Never give money to anyone that calls me....ever. If I am going to give I go to the site, I find myself, or call them directly. Don't make a scammers job easy. I don't know about this call but I have been called and found out when I contacted the group they did not make the call.

Of course, that's been a lot easier this year, since my hotshot Verizon FIOS phone line has been dead for months.
So any calls go directly to voicemail, which we check about twice a month.
It's been much quieter this year
