I'm going to Pennsylvania next month and I thought I might make use of our reciprocity while there.
I'll be flying and of course I'd need to check my sidearm before going. Has anyone ever done this before? Do you trust the airline enough to do this? My biggest concern is lost baggage.

Here is a good thread to start with http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic. ... 71&start=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Using the search feature and entering flying in and selecting to search Topics Only will provide a few more threads on the subject.
One thing to watch, I believe Pennsylvania allows cites to set stricter guidelines for carry, so you may be unable to carry in some cities.
ETA: I searched the info and seems I was wrong and they don't allow cities to preempt the state law.

Yes. Often.samobius wrote:I'll be flying and of course I'd need to check my sidearm before going. Has anyone ever done this before?
I checked handguns in baggage in North Carolina, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Washington (state) and Pennsylvania. Never any problems. Sometimes a delay for the government inspection (post 9/11) but otherwise no issues with having a legal, unloaded firearm in my baggage.
I'd rather wear it on the plane. Safer for everyone but, sadly, not an option on airlines for mere citizens.samobius wrote:Do you trust the airline enough to do this? My biggest concern is lost baggage.
And I can't afford my own jet.

Re: Checked baggage
PA does ahve complete preemtion. They also have unlicensed open carry (except Philly where a license is required) I fly there regularly to visit my 5 y/o and I always either hit the bathroom at baggage claim or at the rental car place and dont disarm until I am in the reverse again on my way back to SA Tx. Good luck and have fun! The firearm must be in a locked case in your checked bag and ammo must be in the original manufacturers packaging but the case and ammo can be in the same bag, too

Re: Checked baggage
I too will be headed to Philly in June. Do they have any oddities like Texas laws: IE 3006 or restaurants that serve alcohol....no carry at the liberty bell or Independence hall etc? I really want to carry but will doing the tourist stuff have me running into metal detectors etc. I see where at the court houses they have lockers for CHL use.
I just looked up Independence Hall and it is part of the National Parks. I wonder if since my CHL is good in PA, will it be allowed in the "Park?"
Thanks for any help.

Here is a good primer on PA gun laws:
http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/pennsylvania.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The parent site, http://www.handgunlaw.us/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, is also a good resource for anyone who travels with a gun.

Thanks! That is a good link. I did also register at http://forum.pafoa.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and asked there as well. I'll post any results in the "Other states" part of our site as I get them.
So far:
PA /Philly
No Schools or court houses or casinos.
Restaurants that serve Liquor are ok....Bars are ok too (Not sure if intoxication requirements apply but willl assume so. I don't drink when I carry but might have to be there for the spouse.)
The zoo is ok.(Philly)
The convention center is off limits.(Philly)
