BUMP for the day folks to see!
This should be watched and consumed over and over again.
Why is it I carry in my home again?

Re: Do Not Open the door to strangers.....
...so, it was a little girl that belonged to one of the robbers who was made to knock on the door!?
I hope when they catch those scum and that child is taken away from them permanently. That is a new low, but I am sure other criminals are going to take note.

WOW! That is disturbing. Yet another reason I carry in the home and EVERY time I answer the door my 1911 is with me.
Re: Do Not Open the door to strangers.....
Using a little girl as bait. In broad daylight. It just shows that it can happen, anywhere, anytime to anyone.
This story just reinforces my justification for carrying at home at all times. I totally agree with you carlson1 & XtremeDuty.

Oh, c'mon... 03lightningrocks thinks you're silly and paranoid and should just move to a "safe" neighborhood.XtremeDuty.45 wrote:WOW! That is disturbing. Yet another reason I carry in the home and EVERY time I answer the door my 1911 is with me.

Im a bit confused...I looked and I connot see where 03lightningrocks states that one should just move to a safe neighborhood. Quite the opposite, I read multiple posts where he states that he always has a loaded gun nearby and he never answers the door without a gun in hand or in jeans.chabouk wrote:Oh, c'mon... 03lightningrocks thinks you're silly and paranoid and should just move to a "safe" neighborhood.XtremeDuty.45 wrote:WOW! Re: Do Not Open the door to strangers.....
So the neighbors and media suggestions for preventing this type of crime in the future:
1. Upgrade their security system (nice ADT sign out front - lot of good that did)
2. Start a neighborhood watch
Yes, good ideas that should've already been in place. But NEITHER of this methods would've stopped this crime

Wow...this is not far from my home at all. The neighborhood where this happened is not a bad one. Just goes to show it always pays to be prepared. Something to keep in mind about who you open to door for, too. Chilling.

Re: Do Not Open the door to strangers.....
A very simular thing happened to a family friend. It was around 8pm, knock on the door, look out and a young woman is there with car troubles. Open the door and boom, guy pops up with a pistol to the homeowners head. Luckily her roommate came down the stairs racking a 12 gauge and the pair fled. He and the woman were arrested a few days later, they had done this a few times in the month preceding this. My friend was VERY VERY lucky that night.

Wow, using a little girl, a new low.

Cougars are shy, reclusive, and downright mysterious...

Different thread. He said that if he felt he needed to carry at home, he'd move.XtremeDuty.45 wrote:Im a bit confused...I looked and I connot see where 03lightningrocks states that one should just move to a safe neighborhood. Re: Do Not Open the door to strangers.....
I am thinking that an intercom system and cameras would be really helpful here---or at least a peephole and a voice that can be heard past the closed door.
Alternatively, perhaps you can have another family member verbally engage the unknown through the closed door, while you exit from another door (careful!), circle around and approach/verbally engage the unknown from their 4 or 8 o'clock. This way you may also visually pick up any bad guys waiting away from the front door, and engage as appropriate.
Carlson and XtremeDuty.45 have the correct idea about staying armed while at home. There is no such thing as a safe neighborhood. However, if one opens the door for an innocent-appearing pretext and gets thug-swarmed by multiple hostiles hiding outside the peephole's field of view, it may be very difficult to draw or effectively engage the hostiles when they are essentially on top of you. Conversely, if one does not willingly open the door for an innocent-appearing pretext, it is possible multiple hostiles could still attempt forced entry and cause problems, in which case one may have enough time to draw a weapon and/or go to cover/concealment and engage as needed. So my thinking is staying armed while at home, in conjunction with keeping doors closed to unknowns, are both very prudent and necessary practices.

Re: Do Not Open the door to strangers.....
+1 on the camera/intercom setup. I've got the camera's just need to install and run the wiring to the distibution system so I can pick it up from any room in the house. Also have the alarm company comming this week to upgrade some of my sensors.
I always have some form of lead thrower on me when I go to the door, and check from the window prior to answering if I do.
