Interesting post on my motorcycle forum this morning...

Post by gtrman66 »

The guy is in Houston...

Woke up and heard someone inmy garage. Two thieves were trying to wheel my DX out into a van. Luckily I had my P9 with me, shot them both...one is dead.

I (and several others) posted and advised him to not post any more until he's in the clear. I've been checking the Houston news, but nothing yet, but it happened early this morning. I don't think that posting is the first thing I would be thinking after such an incident. My first thought would be "lawyer up".

And your first thought would be right IMHO. No offense to any LEO or ADA that haunts these forums, but after an event like that, no one in the law enforcement community, DA's office is to be leaned upon for advice, nor should the event be discussed with them (or anyone) without your counsel present.

Even with best intentions of the specific LEO your talking to, political, or department politics or personal opinions may drive what happens to you... despite the nice LEO or ADA you were talking to yesterday.
No need for a negative attitude, just a polite invocation of my rights,,, . Ask a LEO off line, if he plans on talking with internal affairs or anyone else for that matter after a duty related shooting without his counselor present. Words are powerful tools, even when well meant, they can be twisted or misunderstood and count against you.

as always IANAL.. so it's just MHO...

That's weird.

If I had just shot two guys this morning, I don't think I'd be surfing any web forums in the first place and I sure as heck wouldn't be posting about it.

Double-check the date he posted. If it was posted yesterday, remember it was April 1. Even if he is posting as not a joke, I would question if it was real or not. Unless you know this guy personally, then I would be suspicious that it is made up. We had a member here a year or so ago that made up a big story about shooting someone in self-defense, got folks on the forum to believe it for awhile, but when it started to smell he disappeared. It was all a big lie.

Still nothing on the local news and the post was 9:05am this morning (4/2). He hasn't followed up on the post since that time. He's a regular and never posted anything "unusual" before. I guess it's a wait and see thing now.

I wouldn't either, but I once came across a guy who "twittered" about his home invasion while it was in progress.

Some people get diarrhea of the mouth under stress. Maybe he needed to talk about it to help cope. Maybe it's a hoax. Time will tell.

My first thought was 'made up story', but I am starting to wonder how many incidents really happen that are underreported or not reported on at all. I remember a story a while back (home invasion, I think) that only rated one small story on the website of a local news station, and nothing on the others.

Just 2 days ago, on my own street I saw several police cruisers, the crime scene van, and shortly after the medical examiner's vehicle in front of a house not too far away - it makes me thing 'suspicious death', but I have yet to hear anything on any of the news sites at all.

Well, I don't know what part of town he lives in, but I found this story:

Two shot in a car, both dead, no suspects or motive known yet.

It could be just an unattended death. I am not sure about Texas rules, but in Missouri if there was an unattended death, i.e. no one there when the person expired, but family or friends find them dead, they had to have the Coroner come out and pronounce the person dead, as well as a detective look at the scene for any evidence of foul play. This didn't always happen depending on the age and health of the victim, as in a small town you many times knew the family and the health issues the person might be dealing with (stage 4 cancer, heart issues, etc.) but if there was no previous known issues then the PD would many times get a 911 call and we and the ambulance would respond. If there was no doubt they had expired, then we call in the coroner and CIB officer.)

If it was an April Fool's joke:

I guess some people have different ideas of funny.

I thought I had a black sense of humor.

This was my favorite quote from the 1130cc forum thread.
Did they drop your DX? I hope not.

Interesting development today. The thread and that user's profile are gone. Not a trace. I guess it was some meathead stiring things up for his enjoyment.
