Hand-Me-Down JACKPOT!!*Pics*

Dinner with the parents tonight turned in to me wining the "Hand-Me-Down Jackpot" from my dad!!!! In all, 9 rifles and one revolver.
I haven't done my homework yet on most of these so I really have no Idea what I've got at this point so feel free to educate me. I do know, however, that several of these hold high centimental value since I used em quite a bit in my youth to lay waste to snakes and tweety birds when we used to live in the country.
So here we go....


Japanese Arisaka WWII era, all markings in tact, brought back by my mom's dad, unknown calber


Some old flint type rifle, I know nothing about this one. The right hammer is loose and needs some work.

Dad wouldnt had over a couple other revolvers though. I think he had 2 .22 revolvers, a .38(not special) and a Colt 1908 .25 semi-auto......maybe one day

Not to mention the 2 boxes of old cleaning supplies that are propably no longer any good and a couple cleaning kits, some very cool vintage tins with original cleaning pouches inside, a box of .380, about 750 rounds of .22 and about half a dozen empty OLD OLD OLD ammo boxes.

Congratulations! That's always cool. I always knew that my dad's guns were "mine", but I didn't take possession until he actually passed away, and I divvied them (as fairly as I could) with my nephew, the only adult-ish person in the family who also loved the collection.

I haven't done my homework yet on most of these so I really have no Idea what I've got at this point so feel free to educate me. Sentiment is worth a lot more than any collector value.

Some old flint type rifle, I know nothing about this one. The right hammer is loose and needs some work.

Percussion, not flint. It's a muzzle-loading shotgun. Appears to be about 20 gauge (not that bore diameter is critical with front-stuffer shotguns).

Wow, that would be one of my favorites. Sheridan/Benjamin air rifles are excellent as far as American pump-ups go. Yeah, there are modern break-actions that are better in every regard, but back in the day when puellet guns could be bought for under $20, the Sheridans commanded almost a hundred. And they were worth it.

Keep it that way. It's safer for everyone involved.

Congratulations on the early endowment. Focus on the sentiment, not the dollar value. The whole lot could be stolen without meeting your homeowner's deductible, so enjoy them while knowing they came from your dad.

Caliber on the Ariska is 7.7 Jap WWII service rifle.

The Arisaka is likely either a Type 38 in 6.5x50mm (for the Type 38 Arisaka Rifle), or a Type 90 in 7.7x58mm, both of which were in common use in WW2 by the Japanese. My dad was shot by a Japanese rifleman on Iwo Jima, using an Arisaka Type 38 in that caliber.

The 6.5mm cartridge is very similar to the 6.5x52mm Carcano which Oswald used to assassinate Kennedy.

Ammo is available for both the 6.5 and 7.7 Japanese rifles but, if it is a 7.7 have it checked out by a competent gunsmith because many of the type 99 rifles were hurriedly made with little or no QC. In the last years of the war the rifles were produce using many shortcuts and were only supposed to last for one box (15 rounds) of ammo. If it is a 6.5 these were all pre-war production and were as well made as any pre-war German Mauser.

The RG was never a very well made pistol they were the original "Saturday Night Special" I don't think I would shoot it at all.

It is great you got these while your dad is still with you so he can see how much you appreciate them.

I saw that foregrip and stock .... looks exactly like my first 12 gauge ... wish I still had it.

Boito ERA (Also called Condor Competition)
or Miura I ......... or Miura II (with the double-triggers)
Boito is a Brazilian Company and Imported through FIE, but ...
FOLEYS sold them also back when Foleys sold guns....K-Mart too
In fact , if you see BRAZIL on a Shotgun, no matter what "brand" it is ....... think Boito, (I believe they are the only Brazilian Shotgun Manufacturer there is..)



Darn good LOOKING side-by-side shotguns IMHO, like today's KelTecs and Kahrs, etc ... they were great after you do a fluff and buff smoothe some interior metal parts so they open and closed smoother.
"Open-carried" mine down Westheimer close to my store across from that Catholic school close to where it turns into Elgin/Montrose area for years in the 70's on my way to work and back.

I've never seen as good looking a foregrip. I don't think you can get BOITO shotguns easily anymore, they weren't real expensive, but I liked their looks. I think they about doubled in price from when they were new though.

Now, back to our previously scheduled thread. Nice haul! I've taken in a few of my Dad's guns, but he's still got the 'good' ones yet. That's OK, he has more fun shooting them than I would right now. He's retired and has lots of time to kill varmints.

I've got a Type99 Arisaka (early production) that's a tack driver. First three shots with the weapon (after getting it checked over by a gunsmith) was 1" up of Bullseye, 1" down, and right on the money. Fantastically fun rifle to shoot, if not a little expensive to find ammo for. Hornady makes some for it, for $30-$40 a box/20 depending on where you buy it from.
