Serious question

I can understand a Flounder gig MIGHT be a SPEAR, used to SPEAR fish (which makes it an "illegal knife")... SO
Just wondering if a Sharpened GARDEN HOE is a club or spear?
Just wondering if a PITCHFORK is a club or spear?

I'm guessing a hatchet would be a club?, and may or may not be legal to carry in the woods on trhe lake in a canoe on USACE property.... I'd prefer a longer handle when dealing with cottonmouths/moccasins/or other venomnous snakes or wild boar attacks though instead of a short handled hatchet.

Reason:

I carry on all lakes, rivers, wildlife refuges, national seashores, State/National/City Parks/Lakes/Reservoirs etc etc etc which I go to, but you can't carry on any owned by US ARMY Corps of Engineers, all other waters, are O.K. ... like LCRA, various River Authorities etc etc etc. many of us are armed against snakes, sharks, wild boar or rabid animal attacks and other predators/attackers etc.



I guess the U.S. Army is "supposed to" protect you from Wild Boar attacks/rabid animals/venomnous snakes/other predators and attackers on their Corps of Engineers properties, but everywhere else, you are responsible for your own safety.
That guy was lucky to get away with needing only 35 stitches at the hospital ...
So, I'll carry a PITCHFORK or sharpened garden hoe on US Army Corps of Engineers properties

CHAPTER 46. WEAPONS

Sec. 46.01. DEFINITIONS. In this chapter:

(1) "Club" means an instrument that is specially designed, made, or adapted for the purpose of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by striking a person with the instrument, and includes but is not limited to the following:
(A) blackjack;

(B) nightstick;

(C) mace;

(D) tomahawk.

6) "Illegal knife" means a:

(A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;

(B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;

(C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto, and poniard;

(D) bowie knife;

(E) sword; or

(F) spear.

Right, I understand flounder gig is legal to carry while gigging flounder, but I'm asking about freshwater lakes .

Pitchforks and garden hoes seem to be legal to carry under TEXAS law, BUT does anyone know of any Federal/ US Army Corps of Engineers Rule/Regulation prohibiting a PITCHFORK or garden hoe?

The LAST place I'd expect a wild boar attack is 100 yards offshore in the ocean, but up here in Central Texas we have a LOT of wild boar.

White Bass run is almost over and I need to stock my freezer with fish as we are having a big church meeting with dinner on the grounds soon ... US Army Corps of engineers property (stocked by TPWD and my license fees etc) seems to be producing the most fish right now, I'd like to go get some of my fish, while still being able to protect myself from snakes etc but not violate their regulations, and they don't seem to want to assign an armed guard to accompany me in my kayak.

AFAIK, unless something has changed recently, gigs are legal on Corps lakes. You are legally allowed to posses them for the sport you are engaged in. For example, I used to gig frogs in season, as well as gigging and bow fishing for rough fish (carp, buffalo, gar) on a Corp lake. The only thing is you can't be trying to gig game fish of course.

Yeah, as bad as these feral pigs are getting the conservation departments are pretty well allowing you to take them with any kind of weapon short of a nuke. If the population growth doesn't slow down, that will be allowed next!
