Don't deliver -- and run?

We already have our frustrations with UPS. Is this a new trend, or are we just now finding out what others already knew?

The good part: We were pretty pleased when we found out that our three CMP packages would all come on Friday, when DynaBlue is normally home (all require an adult signature -- but they said we could sign for it anyways...). The first package, an M1 Carbine, came by Fedex Priority (who do a consistently great job for us) on time, and she even waited to open it until I got home -- boy, what a beauty (both of them). (Fortunately, I came home early.)

However: The other two packages were a different matter, two spam cans of HXP via Fedex Ground. I had been home maybe 15 minutes (just long enough to open up the Carbine ), when we heard a door slam and a truck engine outside. We ran to the door just in time to almost see the truck leaving, and found a "missed delivery" note on the screen door, saying no one was home! He was gone so fast we never did see the truck!

He had (we think) simply put the note on the door and left without knocking.

Several calls to Fedex brought us to the conclusion we'll have to find a way to be at home Monday. The closest Fedex hub is 25 miles away.

Is this common?

FedEx is the worst about that. Several times I have been expecting items and Fedex has left "Delivery failure" notices on the door. My wife doesn't work and was home each and every time.

I ordered 1500 rounds of 9MM from Cabella's and they shipped it via UPS. Well I check on Good Friday and noticed that the package said "On Truck for Delivery". I cancelled my plans for my holiday. Luckily I could stay home to sign since an adult signature was required. At 10 AM a UPS truck arrives and I go out to meet the driver. He has a package for my wife, checks his truck and cannot find my ammunition. He tells me it must be on the other truck working the area. My antenna went up right then. I continued to wait the rest of the dat, not a single knock on the door.

Well at 4pm I check online again and it says "Business closed for holiday, next delivery attempt on Monday". I called UPS and after 5 transfers, I finally gave up. This is happening more and more with UPS and FedEx.

Funny, I can take a package to the USPS distribution facility on Aldine Mail Route in Houston and it will get anywhere in the USA via First Class Mail within 2 days, usually just 1. Why can our federal government get it rights, but UPS and FedEx cannot?

I've had a similar experience. They run off before you can even get to the door. I avoid UPS as much as I can.

My experience has been they'll just leave the box on the doorstep even when adult sig required. I've ordered from 3 different places...Ammoman, Lucky Gunner, and Bass Pro and the UPS just drops the (heavy) box on my doorstep with ORD-M stickers all over it.

Once I ordered a handgun (I have a C&R collector FFL) and they just left it on my doorstep. Nice...Tokarev handgun just sittin' on the porch in a box, till I got home.

This is part of why I have the best camera and audio at the front door; I can document when he doesn't even have the package in hand, and the failure notice already written out as he walks up to the door.

I just had an "adult signature required" FedEx delivery yesterday. Went like clockwork. But since it was a pistol being returned to me by the S&W performance shop and I was at home expecting and waiting for the delivery, I made a point to post a note next to the doorbell: "Dear FedEx, the doorbell doesn't work sometimes. If you don't hear it ring, please knock loudly. I am home and expecting you."

One thought - Perhaps he grabbed the box - new it was heavy as hell and decided against carrying it all the way to the door just in case...

Im not trying to defend the driver - but I know if I was a driver and I saw a box whose density/mass was 10x what the normal box was it would make me wonder

My office is in a bedroom at the front of the house close to the front door so I can hear the motor of the UPS or FedEx truck. By the time I get to the front door he is back in his truck. Fortunately, most of my packages don't require signature.

My dogs start barking when UPS/FEDX/USPS are still on the main road and haven't turned the corner to get to my house yet. So I am at the door waiting before they even pull up. I have had UPS just hand me a package that was supposed to be signed for. I keep track of when a package it due to be delivered via the UPS/FEDX websites, so I have the day it is to arrive and just don't go anywhere that day. Would be nice if they had some sort of routine so you'd also know delivery, morning, afternoon or night. I have had packages delivered as late as 8pm from FedX. 7pm from UPS. I order my dogs puddle pads from Drs. Foster & Smith always delivered by FedX I have seen them drop the boxes and puddle pads go everywhere, to them leaving the boxes in a puddle of water (I wasn't home, emergency situation). I have a bench on my front porch that the USPS puts my packages on so wondering why FedX couldn't have put my puddle pads on that. Maybe they figured cause it said puddle pads meant they should be put in a puddle. For those of you unfamilar with the term, puddle pad, it is a housebreaking aide that dogs do their business on when they can't get outside.

My hubby and I were waiting on a shipment of ammo a couple months back. We were at home, in the living room (which is where the front door is), watching a movie, and I thought I heard someone on the porch. He said it's probably the mailman and we'll get the mail when UPS swings by.

At about 6pm we were wondering where UPS was since it was supposedly out for delivery. We checked outside to find a failure notice. We were home all day, right next to the door, and never heard a knock; we don't have a doorbell so there's no way he "rang it" and didn't get an answer!

We had to drive out to get it at 9pm that night because the driver didn't get back until late and we had planned on going to the range to use the ammo the next day. At least the lady who was there when we picked it up asked for proper ID like she was supposed to...

Our UPS guy is great! He brings me bullets, primers, powder and all kinds of stuff, and has doggie-treats for Jack the Lab. He does not worry about opening and closing the gate, or the electric gates when the cows are in the front pasture. He is real dependable and a very nice guy. Remembered at Holiday time with an envelope; wrote a nice letter to his supervisor but he told us that doesn't count, supervisors don't give a hoot.

We've had such poor luck with FedEx that I specifically tell retailers, if they insist on shipping FedEx I'll buy elsewhere. Had to pick up my Garands at the depot in Houston and it is probably 35 miles each way - he left a notice, would not deal with the gate. When my wife orders things and they come FedEx, he puts the package in a plastic bag and ties it to the front gate - in sight of the road, out of sight of the house.

Sorry to rant, but the difference is night-and-day. People deserve recognition when they do their job real well.

A long time ago I was outside in my driveway working on my truck waiting for Brown to deliver some parts for the truck. The front door and the garage are wide open, and there are tools scattered in the driveway.

Brown pulls up, driver (with nothing in hand) jumps out of the truck and walks to the front door. He put a notice on the door and started walking back to the truck when I yelled from inside the truck "I'm right here!" He mumbles an excuse, gets my box from the truck, and drives off. I called UPS to complain and was told a couple of weeks later by another driver that he was fired because of my call. Apparently Brown disapproves of this behavior (surprise!), and this wasn't his first complaint.
