Man shot in driveway

WEST COUNTY – Law enforcement officers were searching for two males who allegedly shot a man in the head Monday evening outside a residence on Mill Creek Road, witnesses said.

The Memorial Day shooting occurred around 6 p.m. in the victim’s driveway as he returned home, according to witnesses. FM 1488, which intersects with Mill Creek on the road’s south side, was shut down for a short time while an air medical helicopter landed to transport the victim to a hospital. The 62-year-old victim reportedly was shot in the head.

One witness said he saw two white males, around 16 years old, fire at least four shots into the man’s truck, which was parked in his driveway. The witness said he knew of no motive for the shooting.

Law enforcement tried to set up a perimeter and reportedly was searching for the two males, who were believed to be armed with handguns. As of 10:50 p.m. Monday, law enforcement had given no details about the shooting, the condition of the victim or the search for the shooters to the public.

Some residents in the area were not allowed to return home as officers continued the investigation and manhunt. Other residents were stuck inside their homes and not permitted to leave as the search continued late into the night.

“They’re scared and huddled inside the home with their guns; everyone in the neighborhood is,” said resident Terry Rauscher, referring to his wife and daughter, who were stuck in the family home just a few houses down from the crime scene.

Rauscher, meanwhile, was not allowed to return to the residence during the ordeal.

“I’m not worried,” he said. “This is a safe neighborhood. This could happen anywhere.”

The witnesses said they did not know who was shot. No further details were available at press time.
The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere. -Thomas Jefferson

Well.... he got half of it right... that it can happen anywhere, but yet he still called it a 'safe' neighborhood.
No such thing.

It does beg the question - what would rise to a level of concern for him?
