I'm a HUGE fan of Gueros Taco Bar, get the Taco's al Pastor (the appetizers, not the entree) and load 'em up with Tomatilla Salsa...YUMMY!!

I also like the Oasis, on Lake Travis, sit on the patio and watch the sun set and pop the question..

The Hula Hut on Lake Travis is also a neat place...

I only get to Austin every now and then but if I were to re-propose, it would be at the Oasis. Maybe some Austinites can give you a better choice though. The above places are fun to visit for me.

I second the Oasis as being a nice place to be at sunset. The food ranges from "OK" to a bit better.

Another alternative for a place to pop the question is Mount Bonnell (tallest point in Austin area). I haven't been, but I hear its quite romantic.

Good luck!

:iagree: :iagree: :iagree: on The Oasis .... that is one of the premier romantic spots in Austin area - but it can get very crowded, especially around sunset. The view over Lake Travis at sunset is phenomenal. The food is average at best - your best bet is to go for drinks and appetizers during sunset (just beware the crowds).

Mount Bonnell (if you and her are into some mild hiking) is also a good spot with gorgeous views, of Lake Austin.

Or you could find a quiet spot while walking along the shore of Lady Bird Lake near downtown; or at Zilker Park, the Botanical Gardens perhaps? Under the Stevie Ray Vaughn statue? :biggrinjester:

Propose to her in the middle of the Capitol rotunda (while carrying :thumbs2: )

Salt Lick is definitely a good place for BarBQ .... if you want to venture a bit further outside of town, Smitty's, Blacks, Kreutz's, and Chisholm Trail in Lockhart are all better barbecue (IMHO) - with Smitty's taking the top spot .... also, go the other direction (north) to Cooper's in Llano - also superb barbecue ..... and if you want some right in heart of Austin, try Stubb's on 5th or 6th in downtown

If you're into wine there are also some good wineries in the general Llano/Marble Falls area, some of which have some romantic spots

If you want a very special (read: expensive) restaurant for the occasion, I've heard Hudson's on the Bend (south side of Lake Travis) is phenomenal

:iagree: I popped the question at this very place almost 20 years ago and we are still madly in love. It is also a great place for a picnic lunch - which is a great place to hide a ring box from prying eyes!

I have a favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in Austin.
Polvo's Mex Restaurant 2004 S 1st St, Austin TX 78704 512-441-5446

You do NOT want to go there for atmosphere. They make the place look like you do NOT want to stop.
They make the food so good that you want to return often. (I guess this is slightly "off topic", but when
you mentioned Austin, I had to mention this place.)

South Congress Cafe is some of the best food in TX.

The elephant room is an amazing underground jazz bar with great musicians.

There are many others but I could fill up this servers hard drives with cool stuff to in ATX. I have the worlds biggest crush on that city.

Since you are staying outside of Austin, why not e-mail city council to let them know you are staying outside of Austin so they don;t get revenue from your hotel tax, due to them boycotting Arizona?

Anywhere else in Texas besides Austin as long as the leftist idiots running the place want to boycott Arizona. And be sure to tell them about it.

I hid my wife's engagement ring in one of those old-fashioned aspirin tins that you used to see for sale at convenience stores (usually had 4 aspirins in it for a buck or two - now they all come in plastic blister packs). Anyway, I bought in ring in Texas, hid it in the tin and put then tin in my wallet, flew out to California to see her folks, asked her dad's permission first (great quote, he responded "What're you askin' me for? Go ask her."), then popped the question to her on a beach while we watched the tide come in one later afternoon.

back to the OP, if you're looking to be outside of Austin but close enough to go into town, look for a place to stay on Lake Travis - I don't know the short-term rental market well, but I know there are a lot of weekend rentals and such at lake condos all around that lake (north and south shore) - just Google "lake travis weekend rentals" or something .... look for stuff in spicewood or lakeway (south shore) or Lago Vista, Jonestown, Point Venture (north shore). There are also plenty of campgrounds around (don't laugh, many people find camping under the stars very romantic - but kinda depends on what your LADY THINKS of such things ;-) )

I'd recommend a place on I-35 north of town. . . called Fort Worth! :tiphat:

I have yet to visit it but I hear Hamilton Pool is nice, there's a waterfall you can walk under. Also, further out from Austin near Johnson City is Enchanted Rock. Lots of B&B's around there too, I think.
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

Hamilton Pool is great (and 5 miles from me). Also nearby is Reimers Ranch Park - nice hiking, rock climbing, mountain bike trails and access to the Pedernales River.
